Elizabeth has two good sections (Elmora Hills and Westminster) and one decent section (Elmora). The rest is garbage. The influx of illegal aliens has turned a once diverse city into a Central American dump. As for Linden, while not nearly as bad as Elizabeth, it’s also on the downswing. The Polish community was the only thing that kept that town halfway decent. Now they’re gone and the city’s gone downhill. They are two good sections (Sunnyside and the part bordering Cranford). The rest is trash. As for the new strip mall, it’s situated between two go-go bars and next door to a chemical refinery. Not exactly what I would call urban renewal. But both cities are MUCH better than Irvington … so that tells you all you need to know about Irvington.

There are still lots of Polish people in Linden. We go there once in a while to the National Liquidator (near the blockbuster) and some Polish sausage shop to buy sausages. Everything in Polish, everyone speaking polish.
Also, lots of polish people go to the Cranford swimming pool (the one facing the linden border). I thought they were russian at first. we know they live in Linden because when they hit centennial to go home, they inevitably turn left (towards linden) ;-)

. . . and who needs the FBI uniformed crime reports (you know, actual facts) when you have prejudice and innuendo. It doesn't matter that Linden is actually safer than Montclair - we'll just pretend that it isn't because the housing type is different and a different class of people live there. And who cares that Union City is only negligibly more dangerous than Hoboken - it's full of Cubans so let's avoid it like the plague.
I really can't figure out why there are so many people on this board who are so obsessed with urban crime . . . as if they're actually considering living in one of these places. Of you listen to them you'd think that people get beaten and killed for simply being in the wrong place at the right time. People that actually live in these places know that unless you hang around with scumbags or regularly argue with them that you have a tiny chance of being the victim of violent crime. The fact is that it's generally the same idiots who are the victims of violent crime on multiple occasions and they're also the perps when it's their turn to get even.

Damn that's deep! Me being from West New York which borders Union City and being Cuban might take offense. Fact is, these two communities aren't any worse than any urban sector in the country. In fact, despite all the Cubans nestled here, it is probably one of the safest urban areas you'll find in the US, unless you talk down to the Cubans. Then you'll have to answer to Tony and Manolo. We bury the cocoroaches!!!

What do you want to know? It's spanish, crowded, and an urban jungle (lots of apt buildings, looks like bronx,) but for the most part its safe. About the size of a small ward in a major city, 4 murders, 97 robberies, 92 agavated assults 5 rapes, ton of burglaries and car thefts all in less than a square mile, come on by, you be the judge!!

not necessarily. there are still plenty of polish people in Linden. linden is about 60% white, 20% black, and 15% latino. and there are still more ethnicities.
and yes, some parts of linden are a little rough, like down linden (near the route 1 &9) and the parts near Elizabeth across the train tracks. i lived near downtown Linden near the intersection of St Georges and Wood Ave and that area was average. decent looking houses are around there.
Sunnyside is the best part of Linden. it's the most suburban and generally quietest. once you see all the signs read " " terrace, you're there.
Linden isn't really "as bad as people say they are" compared to places like Irvington. it has the good and the bad. most of the city is decent looking with a few abandoned looking houses and areas here and there. and yes there's been a lot of construction there lately with the new Sam's Club and Kohl's. they're not built in the most ideal place, but hey, you can't have it all.
and yes there are robberies, thefts, and just crime in general. quite a bit of fighting in the schools. the school system isn't bad really. not a perfect 10 but not bad. it's not extremely dangerous, it's not a boring suburban place, there's diversity, and everything's in close proximity. it's a real town. people just give it a bad rap sometimes because it boarders elizabeth (elmora section) and some of of the stuff that happens there leaks into linden sometimes.
|
Linden used to be a predominantly Polish town, and it's not anymore. Their maybe still a few here and there, but most have left to Union. Watch when the 2010 census numbers come out ... the Latino population will be triple or quadruple the number you stated.
FYI, only one section of Linden boarders Elmora, and Elmora is one of the nicer sections of Elizabeth. If there's crime infiltrating from one town to another, I'll guarantee you that it's the Linden undesirables making their way into Elmora and not the other way around.

Yes, I'm sure some Polish people still live in Linden, but nowhere near the amount of say 5 to 10 years ago. Many of them have moved to Union. I don't think it's coincidence that as they've migrated, the overall quality of the town has suffered.

funny how people say that crimes that happen in Elizabeth leaks over to Linden.. read the news and you'll see that most crimes that happen in Elizabeth are by residents of nearby towns.. like Linden, Rahway, Hillside, Union, Newark, etc.. Elizabeth might not be paradise but it's not as dangerous as other CITIES.. I also see others say that if you are civilized then Elizabeth is bad.. how do you define civilize? there are tons of educated people and professionals in Elizabeth.. so why generalize? there are wealthy ignorant people in the best towns..
also, not all illegal immigrants are from Central America.. you have illegal Portuguese, Brazilians, Chinese, Indians, Uruguayan, etc.. I guess what you are referring to central America, you mean Hispanics.. BTW NOT all Hispanics are from Central America, or are ILLEGAL.. and because there is a large % of Hispanics it does not mean it's bad..
The Hispanic culture have one of the strongest cultural upraisings and morals.. you see this if you travel to any Latin American country.. you'll notice immediately that financial wealth in Latin countries don't mean much but Education and morals are..
