Default Love talking about the burg

I thank you all for bringing back some great memories. Rossi's is still there the waitress clair that worked there like 30 years , and i think is still there . Her son bobby worked there for years too and they lived across the street from my grand parents . They got me a summer job doing dishes and cutting up / prepping food when i was like 13, that's where i first learned to cook. My best freind is eddy baldassari nephew and he know he should have sold years ago. When i was there about 18 months ago Mr. Rossi was still there and yes the burgers were still huge and good and the same cook teddy the turtle was still sweating in the kitchen. I know what you mean about the old lady 4 old people got robbed on my block around 1997 when i lived on bayard street. They did not come near my house cause they new if i caught them in my place i would have kicked there teeth in ,but the old people could not do antthing to them. Cowards i hung a sign on the front of my house it said "I DARE YOU TO ROB THIS HOUSE", NO takers. Once i saw a kid maybe around 16 walking a huge pit bull , i said to him you need to put that monster on a leash first , its the law, 2nd there were alot of small kids always playing and if that dog grabbed one of them there was not much he ( about 120lbs soaking wet ) would be able to do. He said something wise , i went in the house showed him a gun and said the next time i see that dog off a lash im going to put a bullet in it, quess what he walked that dog on a leash from then on.

OK you really tested me with your other question:...In the building where Gold's Gym is now was Best Aplliances...not Best Buy...just "Best" The one you're thniking of over near Ewing HS was Trenton Tobacco Dealers Exchange !!. Note however that that was not their original location. before they were located in the inside corner of that little strip mall near EHS they were off Prospect Street right near the old Ewing Drive in theater. There's a car wash right there also and...the original location of Mrs G's was there... now on route 1 in lawerenceville of course.

No I'm not Polish/Slavik ...father was english, but my mothers parents were "escaped" Pennsyvania Dutch!! But I still spent my summers on the family farms helping out till after harvest then back here and into school...So I was exposed to lots of 'different foods" I've always been willing to try almost anything at least twice
red beets and horseradish ?? You betcha !! ethnic foods ?? no problem...I preferr it not to be moving however
Best, that's it! For some reason though the name Trenton Tobacco Dealers Exchange doesn't ring a bell to me. Was there another similar type store in there after that?

Does anyone remember Mrs. Erzak's baked goods? My mother and grandmother used to make their own nut and poppyseed rolls so it was only on a couple of occasions that we bought Mrs. Erzak's. God do I love poppyseed. I buy it in a jar at the grocery store now to make poppyseed cakes. I could eat that stuff right out of the jar. A couple years ago I found poppyseed rolls at the Hamilton Farmers Market across from Applebee's on 33. They had 2 different brands and they were cheap too, $2.99. I decided to try them and boy were they good. So whenever I go in there I pick up a couple.

Goodness, I just checked Rossi's menu and their famous burgers are only $4.95. Isn't that they same price they were 20 years ago?

Oh, and the drive-ins. Forgot about them.

It's still on the corner of Chambers and Roebling. Years ago (and I mean years ago) there used to be an Azzaro's Tomato Pies on S. Broad in Hamilton that had great pizzas. It was across from the White City Market. I think the man's first name was Mike.

And speaking of pizza.... Delorenzo's.. yummmmm

Does anyone remember the name of the great pizza place that used to be on Olden Avenue? If you were driving down Olden going towards Ewing it was on the left right after you crossed Greenwood Avenue. If I remember right I think it was later an auto parts store.

I notice the bar is still there but alll the tables have been replaced by pool tables, there's calipso music blasting out from somewhere...lots of dudes with pool cues loooking at me...and i'm the only gringo in the place....Hmmmmm ...I don't think we're in Kansas anymore Toto..
