Default Affordable, Safe, Family Towns in Northern NJ

Hi everyone!

I hope you all can help me. I grew up in Sparta, NJ. My husband and I have lived in North Carolina for a little while. We are looking to move back to New Jersey as soon as possible. He is in sales - his territory is flexible. We have two young kids, so schools are important. Can anyone tell me a few towns that we can start to look at. I'm thinking a little more Eastern than Sparta and Sussex county; however, I know it gets pricer the closer to the city you get. I'd like to know specific towns to look at in Morris, Bergen, and other counties you all may think are a good fit for a young family. We'd like a nice house in a nice area... looking to stay around $350,000 or under. I know that doesn't get you much in some areas. Thank you so, so much for all the help!

tight budget for those areas. I did see a nice 2 bdrm ranch in Long valley in your price range..great buy as they have great schools! I'll see if I can find the listing. Would be a great choice for a young couple with kids.

Look in Hunterdon County or western Morris County. Parts of Monmouth County are more affordable. You'll do best in Warren County, some areas of deep south jersey or closer to the shore like Toms River.

Vernon is farther out of the way than Sparta!

As for east of Sparta and Sussex, I will throw some names out there- Jefferson, Mt. Arlington, Rockaway, Denville, Parsippany are all areas east of Sparta and while house finding might be a little tight, you could find some decent homes.

Good luck!
