Where is the Ironbound section of Newark?
Where is the Ironbound section of Newark? I'm trying to see where it is on a map, so for example from that street to that street and this street to this street. Also is it really that much better than the rest of Newark? Are there areas that are worse than others in the section, and some that are better?

It is on the easternmost section of Newark
it is sort of away from the bulk of Newark
if you want a quick way of getting there take ridge rd off Rte 3 and just head south until you see what probably is portuguese written on signs

Right after the stank part of the turnpike coming from the north... the eastern part of newark.. close to Harrison.
I was there recently and it looked better then say the Western and South areas of Newark.. Ironbound has a high Portugese population. The area looks like your in Kearny or something. only a little bot downgraded.
but overall it's a decent place.

How is the crime? I heard it is suppose to be better than the rest of Newark, but that isn't saying much. How is it compared to the rest of Jersey crime wise?

Undoubtably much higher when compared to the "rest of Jersey", because it's still Newark, it's still an urban area, and so you're going to have higher crime than in all the suburban towns. But I don't think it's anywhere near the crime level of Newark in general; the cops, businesses, and politicians try to keep that neighborhood safe, I think they all realize it's the only reason Newark is still hanging on by a thread.
I lived there for about 4 years and never had a problem (although I didn't have a car, and I can imagine that much of the crime is related to car theft or theft from cars etc.). The Ironbound has got its positives and negatives like anywhere else. I liked the easy and cheap commute to the city, and the restaurants and bakeries; biggest downside for me is just how darn crowded it is, with little green space or parks.

What about compared to other urban areas of north Jersey? Or compared to other areas with the same price range?

Well i don't know if the crime is preferably low but it's not horrible, i mean it's a nice place to have an apartment for a couple or yourself etc.. but to have a family there.. then maybe you should try to stay out of Newark all in all unless you get a good private school, because i actually think the private schools in Newark are pretty good. But im saying, try Ironbound w/ private schools if you are plannin on a family, but if not then you'll be fine in ironbound.

Unless you're Brazilizan or Portuguese, do not try Irounbound at all (family or not). You'll feel like an isolated outsider if you do.

I agree. I dont see what the hype is about Ironbound, it smells like smelly pork and its mostly foreigners, it's also in a difficult location so believe it or not there are better parts of Newark

If you google "Newark Penn Station" and click on the little map that comes up - the Ironbound is the neighborhood to the east of the station. That's the hype about the Ironbound - that most of it is walking distance to Newark Penn Station.
Ironbound is much better than the rest of Newark and probably a lot better than much of Jersey City. It sounds like a you might be a single guy and are probably unconcerned about neighborhood schools or about making friends with the neighbors.
