I live seven blocks away from Keansburg. I've been in way worse areas, but Keansburg is not desirable at all. The Latin Kings are moving in (which is a tad frightening considering they are being welcomed by some) and the schools are horrible. I think the only thing that draws people is the water park and the boardwalk.

girl from the burg
I grew up in keansburg in the 70's and 80's, and have a lot of great memories. It was a town full of tourism and the summers were great, but as the years went on it was less of a summer get away as more section 8 families moved in. When i became a parent myself i moved out so my children could go to a better school do to the overcrowding of the small 1 mile square town. Mor and more lower income families moving in and less home owners. I still work in a local sports bar in keansburg and have for 15 years. they have started to redevelope keansburg and i have seen many changes.they are trading bungolows for condo's. keansburg has a very dedicated police force and i believe the future is bright for keansburg.I just hope the condos will be lived in by the owners ,and not rented out.Their is still many things to do in Keansburg ,Water park , Boardwalk ,Beach, Arcades and many great local businesses.

There are parts of Keansburg that are very run down and there are several boarding houses in town. It seems to me that the closer you go to the highway (Rt 36) the better it gets.
Why don't you take a peek next door in Union Beach. It's also a small town and there's virtually no crime.

well i must say that i grew up in this town and i hated every minute of it. I moved here from Bayone and I would say that Bayone was hell of a whole lot better than Keansburg. Going on my 15th year in this town and I still hate to show my face in this town. It is no more than a mile long and on every corner you go onto there is a Bar. The schools them selves I would say are decent from the outside, and the the cafe food horrible. Now to answer your question about the middle aged woman in keansburg, I would say more or less where it is that you move in keansburg. Anything from Main st. and over towards Laurel ave I would never choose to live. I think that is where all the so called wanna be gangsta's live at. The best thing about the town I will say is the amusment park, it has been here for years and that is the biggest attraction of keansburg. During the summer it gets crazy and on Hollidays. 4th of July forget about it you have no parking. Now when it comes to the snowy season, they dont ever put rock salt on the streets, it is nothing but dirt or sand on the streets. An that is only if they even decide on doing your street. The taxes in the town or somewhat high. An that is for a home in keansburg. Everything thing else out of the area I would consider, and only if you have to keep keansburg as last on your list. But if you are looking for a cheap area to live I guess the (BURG) would be it. I hope that you take this note into consideration. Write back to me if you want to know more about the (BURG)

I think Union Beach or Keyport would be much better options.

Keansburg is an old beach town

Less expensive overall-lower taxes and a little slower paced- which I feel would be much better for a grandma w/ grandkids. Most of NJ is very rushed. Most of that part of PA is quiet, pretty and more relaxing. Good luck to you.

Keansburg is an old beach town, actually is known to have one of the oldest boardwalks in the United States, and the town is only one square mile. Give the town some credit! I moved here a year and half ago and bought a house. I love it here because I am close to the beaches, close to good shopping, close enough to New York City, and I find people here friendly and safe! I would definitely consider having a family here. I would not retire here! Its an average town, not bad and not the greatest, but has a lot of greater potential.

Latin Kings are in most towns of New Jersey! Keansburg is more desireable than by far more than 50% of the towns in New Jersey!
