Keansburg
I would appreciate any information on this town. How is the crime in the area?
Are the taxes there unreasonable? Would it be safe for a middle aged single women?
Thanks

Statistical information:

Keansburg, for a town its size, and for a NJ shore town, has more crime than it ought to, and it's not as nice as it ought to be. Having said that, I would not consider it unsafe. Unfortunately for Keansburg, it is surrounded by very expensive, very nice towns, with a lot of new construction, which makes Keansburg seem a little dumpy. But there's nothing really wrong with it. It is a great area to live in; plenty of job opportunity, plenty of recreation, superclose to the beach and not from from NYC.

My friends dad lived in Keansburg and said he loved it. It has a huge irish population so lots of pubs plus near by Asbury Park with good music bars (although i wouldnt suggest living there). Also its next to the beach and beach from properties can be rented so its a good financial deal to.

Keansburg is slated for some major redevelopment in the area around the amusement park, which will hopefully clean up the surrounding areas and bring up property values. It's not the most desirable town in NJ and the schools are marginal, but if you're just looking for a place to live that's quaint, it'll probably be fine. It's not the South Bronx or anything.

Keansburg had a very bad rep in the 1980's- unusual for Monmouth Co. Also hopefully you are childless or can afford to pay tuition. In recent history the school district there was actually classified by state supreme court ruling as inadequate and unconstitutional. It is a low income town in relation to most of that area. Not much to do in the general area but it has all the traditional suburban options close by.

Agreeing with what everyone said, especially Christina. They have done a lot of work to the boardwalk. It's part of the Bayshore, and it's not terrible, but it isn't the most desirable either. It can be so much better. In comparison to the towns around it, it's shoddy.
I'm in a town that borders it. As someone mentioned above, it had a terrible rep in the 80s. Probably has gotten better, but it's not there quite yet.

Maybe a reason to buy now, because once the public realizes cheap housing/land, prices will hit the roof.

Thanks
Thanks for all the good feedback. I am moving to NJ to be near my daughter. She is in Bergan Co......and we all know that most single people can not deal with the prices in Bergan Co......Taxes are crazy and home prices are unreachable for me......Grew up at Myrtle Beach SC and love the ocean....small town is what I am looking for. I really don't want to live next door to a Highrise or million $ house......ya know it would make my little place look even more #$%^&.....well we'll just leave it there....OK.....LOL
I have thought about PA and really am not sure yet....we are looking in both areas....
I'm just a little ole granny trying to get close to her grandkids and daughter....and money is an object......LOL
Thanks again and keep the info coming if anyone else can tell me anything more about the area...

I was going to suggest Spring Lake but it will be too expensive I think. Keansburg I feel is just too run down and depressing especially for someone from out of the area. Most of NJ is expensive. The Northwest part of the state is nice but costly these days. If you are going to rent it would be different but PA is probably your best bet. Bucks County and surrounding area is very nice. Less expensive overall-lower taxes and a little slower paced- which I feel would be much better for a grandma w/ grandkids. Most of NJ is very rushed. Most of that part of PA is quiet, pretty and more relaxing. Good luck to you.
