It appears that Corslime will be getting his way with tolls going up on the GSP and Turnpike.

Guess he doesn't care about the middle class.

MPB, I hope this isn't a surprise to anyone, he proposed a 800 percent increase last year so now people are thrilled with only a 50 percent increase and another 50 percent in a couple of years. Most NJerseyans are sheep and they couldn't care.

Actually, I think most NJerseyans are just beaten dogs and their spirit has been broken.

Yea and I got it pretty much the worst with the highest bridge tolls at $4 in the Philly area! It still won't stop me from taking my peaceful trips out of the city!

According to the NJ Transit authority:
Tolls would go up 50 percent at the end of 2008, 50 percent in 2012 and another 10 percent in 2023. The average parkway driver, who pays 35 cents, would pay 85 cents in 2023, which is 50 cents more than it is today. The average turnpike driver who pays $1.20 today would pay $3 in 2023, or $1.80 more.

Tolls were last increased on the parkway in 1989 and the turnpike in 2000.

OK I'm going to play devil's advocate here. No, I don't like higher taxes. No, I don't like higher tolls. No, I don't like the Teachers or Police unions that cost the citizens an arm and and leg. No, I don't like a LOT of thing. No, I really hate the corruption of this state....

With all that said....

WHEN YOU ARE BROKE - the money is going to have to come from somewhere... and usually, sadly, it is from us.

Now...it's not a Democrat or Republican thing... it's a politics thing. Who do you think is going to pay for the nearly $500 trillion deficit goold ol' W is leaving us? WE WILL. I don't care WHO wins... it's going to come from somewhere and in the long run it will be us.

That said. The only option the state has is to increase revenues or cut services. I definately think there are a lot of services to be cut... but go and do that and see how many intrest groups pop up (including the aforementioned teacher & police unions....)

It's going to have to come from somewhere.... so where would all y'all whining about it reccomend it come from. THOUGHTFUL responses only - not foolish ones that will never happen.

And badfish before you lance me for that - I still hold that BENEFITS for teachers have to be more equitable to the rest of us normal humans.

And I DEFINATELY think consolidation is needed on the administrative level...BIG time.

JoeSo - no.
But if they end tolls, basically, won't we just be paying more for Gas.... this is what I'm saying... it's a loose loose situation.
