Default Summer Rentals

We are looking to rent a house on the shore for the month of August. Can someone recommend a good, reputable broker who specializes in summer rentals?

Also, which towns would you suggest I look at? I need something relatively close, I'd say no more than 2 - 2.5 hr. drive from Bergen County. A town that is kids-friendly with not too much college scene going on. Also, I would like a town that's a bit more upscale.

I appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks.

Default Ocean City, NJ

We go to Ocean City each summer with my sister and her family. We both have 2 young girls (6 years and under) and love our family summer vacation. We use marianne at Berger Realty.

The beaches can be a little crowded, depending on where you stay. THe farther down towards 40th and 50th street, the less crowded it will be, because you are going away from the boardwalk. The town is dry and very kid friendly with lots of great places to eat, take-out, rides and entertainment on the boardwalk, miniature golf, movie theaters and much more. For a night out, AC, Margate and Vetnor are just 20 minutes away.

We can't wait for July. I hope this helps a little.

Colby took the words right out of my mouth- Ocean City is about the only place that you can avoid the wild party/college crowd.

Bob ... We went to Stone Harbor every year. It's a little bit further south. very much an upscale family town. No herty gerty what-so-ever. Wildwood & Cape May are close by if you wanna pack up the troops and do that sort of thing one evening for kicks. I highly recommend it.

Another thumbs up for Ocean City. In addition to the 40th-50th street recommendation, I'd look at the far north end of the island termed the "Gardens". This is where the bulk of the year-round community is, and has less of a rental feel. Less rental options there, though, for the same reason.

And before you use a broker, you might want to take a look at www.vrbo.com (Vacation Rentals by Owner...no, no affiliation whatsoever). Oftentimes the rates you can get through VRBO are less, since they aren't paying the 10-12% to the broker.

Good luck!

Ocean grove is about as no party as you can get. No liquor is sold in Ocean Grove. Real Old Time atmosphere but no boardwalk amusments.
We are almost finished restoring a Victorian farmhouse only three blocks from the beach, the new kitchen and bath will be finished in about a month and will be offering it soon without a broker.

Beautiful Ocean City.......
The only place I miss!

You'll love it there! It's a totally different feel than the more Northern shore towns. Strathmere is nice, too. Much quieter than OC but just a few minutes away. Stay away from Sea Isle City. It's a nice town but you will find more of a college crowd there.

Have fun! (I'm jealous)
