A question about rebates.
Im a renter at $1775 a month.
I make less than 6 figures.
Do I get anything? Did I have to file something besides the reg tax form?
Just curious.
Im not from NJ. Enlighten me.

I am going out on a limb here, as I cannot remember everything that the rebate form said, but basically I believe the answer to your question is no. No your a renter, you don't get the rebate. Along with about 10K in tax deductions that home owners get, they also get the rebate. Despite all the issues with the real estate market, there is a over all long term trend with the federal and state and local governments, which promotes home ownership. You all know why that is I am sure! Because home owners in general commit less crime, they contribute more to the community, they care what is happening locally, and they take care of their home better. After all, what does a renter care about any of that, if it gets bad enough they just give 30 or 60 days notice and move.
There are costs to being a renter.

Id love to be an owner. A decent 3-1.5 you need more income than I make. The wife is taking care of the kids and, given daycare costs vs. what she could earn... It does not make dollar sense.
If I manage to not get laid off my 2 jobs and if home prices keep skittering downward... we shall see. Another 10% downward and a home gets well into the maybe category.
As for owners taking better care of the property. LOL you should see the crapshack I am renting. He hasnt stained the shake siding in X years and its buckling. Soffit is falling down in spots. South facing Roof needs replacing (does not leak... yet). etc etc etc. I fixed the rotting gate and failing light fixture. (not my job but it was easy) He sold it as a tear down. We move next year. Hopefully Rockaway/ Denville. Finding a decent 3-1.5 for less than 2000 is not easy but it is doable. Knowing the lay of the land better now will hopefully help.
excuse me I hafta commit a crime, take something from the community, neglect a house, and move with no notice.
