Default Moving back to NJ - N Haledon

I am moving back to NJ after being in TX for 24 years. I made an offer on a house in North Haledon. Can anyone tell me about shopping in the area, good restaurants and how safe you feel here? When I went to see the house, the realtor took me thru 208 and across through lovely tree lined roads. My husband went through Paterson and after that I felt a little scared that this was close to us. Should I be??? Thanks for any information you can provide me.

I used to live in Haledon and one of my co-workers lives in North Haledon. I asked him what to tell you, and he wrote:

"I have been living here 18 years now, and this should tell one something. The taxes are low and the small community is very safe. We have a good police dept. Paterson is another story and even though it is only 3 miles away it is not a worry."

I've lived in North Haledon for 30 years, and it is a lovely town. We have Haledon as a buffer between us and Paterson, and honestly there is no trouble here. I actually live near the Haledon side, and it's fine. My brothers and I grew up running around the neighborhood unsupervised without fear for safety. Oh, and Haledon itself isn't bad, either. But do avoid Paterson.

For shopping, you are 15 minutes from the mecca of consumerism, Paramus--more square feet of retail than any other town in the US, I've heard. Nearby Wayne also has a lot to offer, and if you're willing to drive 30 minutes to Nyack the Palisades Center is one of the largest malls in the country. For restaurants, try Ridgewood. There is a beautiful mainstreet with numerous options to choose from (American, Thai, Indian, Italian, Chinese, etc).

You're moving to a great area.

Default North Haledon or Hawthorne

My fiancee and I are planning to relocate to NJ. We would like to buy a single family home. Our budget is that of 400k. I would appreciate any information regarding these towns and which of the two is preferred. We work in NYC so public transportation is important. We want a quiet and friendly town that has shopping and local restaurants. We are in our early 30's and dont have children yet. Any info is appreciated.
