Default Public transportation and area info (Englewood, Leonia, Tenafly)

Hello:

My wife recently found a job in Mahwah and I work in Mid-town Manhattan (around 23rd and 3rd Ave).

We are considering renting a place (and possibly buying a year later) where it will be easier for her to drive to work (and avoid the traffic going into Manhattan) as well as near public transportation so that I can get to mid-town east. We are willing spend about $2000 for a 2BR.

We browsed this BB for names of nice towns/neighborhoods and thought that Englewood, Leonia or Tenafly might be nice options (we are open to suggestions regarding other areas). We would really appreciate your feedback on:

1) How bad/good the traffic will be for my wife if needs to to drive to Mahwah?

2) the frequency of bus transportation from these places as well as if there are special lanes that ensure that buses run on time (do they run on time?)

3) Finally, your feedback on the safety as well as the desirability of these areas and other possibilities... We would really love to live near a place with lots of options in terms shopping, restaurants etc. (walking distance would be awesome, but not essential).

4) Are we missing something if we are not considering the NJ Transit Main Train line (ridgewood, ramsey, allendale etc)? Is Morristown even a possibility (for my wife's commute)?

Thanks in advance for your time. Info on any of these questions would be greatly appreciated.
