Default Moving from India(Bangalore) to NJ

Hi!

I've got a job offer at Piscataway,NJ as a Programmer Analyst. They have offered me $60000 Annually. I am a Married person but i will not be getting my family to NJ unless i settle down in NJ for about 6 months.

I don't have any idea about the cost of Living out there and the Tax deduction.

I wanna know is this amount sufficient for a living at New Jersey? If anybody could give me details on Cost of Living for a single person and family (Spouse) at NJ, it will be very helpful to me.

It's difficult to say what your cost of living will be unless you have lived in the US before and have a way to compare. The most recent figures the Dept. of Commerce has on personal income for Piscataway is 2004. Personal income is defined as net income received from all sources, that is, your income after taxes. The average personal income in 2004 was $31,374,912.

I can't answer what your tax deduction would be, that is just too tricky. It does look safe for you as an individual to live on the salary that is offered.

yeah, tough question there. it depends on the quality of life you are expecting. how do you expect to live? renting a 1 bedroom apartment? Will you have a car? 2 cars? I'd guess (key word being guess) that you will have roughly $3,500 to $3,750 of income after income taxes are taken out.

A quick search on rents in Piscataway for a 1 bedroom apartment showed a few options around $850/month. Granted, they might not be the best options.

In the end, it all depends on how much you think you will be consuming, and what kind of life you expect to lead. Good luck!

I would say you have to consider more than just the money. You have to see if you will be better off in the long run than where you currently are in India. Also whether it would be a better future for your kids?
If you would initially come on your own, the advantage is you check out the area, cost of living etc. If you think it's too tight then you can always head back.

But six months is tough without your family. I've only been here 1 month and am struggling already without my kids.

I think you have a good job and are making sufficient money. Most Americans staying here just avg about $40K a year that too with a family. Your rent should run you about $950/month with a 1 1/2 month security deposit and 1 months rent in advance. NJ is expensive tax wise but a great place to live because of its proximity to NY and suburban lifestyle. It is a 1 hours drive to the beaches, PA mountains, tons of amusement parks and a big Indian community. Youll do fine....

Default Insight

Being a person who has travelled to India, it is extremely likely that your quality of life will be postively better than what you have now. It all depends on where you will actually live in the area though. Have you now yet visited the area and priced items including housing?
When I visited India it was in Channai which is way south of where you are coming from , however the qualityof life there was not good for the folks. They stood in line for water twice a week as they had no running water and they lived in poor conditions. Perhaps you have a much better living than what I witnessed though.
Good luck to you.

Hi
Like any other nation(including US) India has both extreme population. richest and poor.I have seen homeless eating out of garbage can in Newyork city , it doent mean that all Americans eat out of the Garbage can. India sure does have a great quality of living, especially cities like Bangalore, Mumbai or Chennai. It depends on where you look

Theres a predominant Indian population in Jersey. You can try areas like Edison and Piscataway. Try Apartmentratings.com, rent.com for apartment in and around the area. If you need more info write to me.i'll be happy to help
Good Luck
