Default Need info on New Providence

Hi everyone! I wanted to get some advice on New Providence....we are thinking of moving to the area..we have two young children, so schools are the most important factor.

How is the area? Homes? People? Which areas are best to be in...where do we stay away from? Is there a downtown area? Shopping malls?
Thanks!

New Providence is VERY nice.

The schools are great. It has its own high school.

It is a beautiful area with nice homes, from small capes to larger colonial type homes. Plan to spend 700K at a bare minimum, $850 would probably get you something nice. Look at www.gsmls.com.

There are a few restaurants and shops, a grocery store in NewProvidence- but not exactly a "downtown". However you are about 10 minutes from downtown Summit- which has a lot of nice shopping, restaurants, and a movie theatre. You are also about 10 minutes from Short Hills Mall, which is probably the best mall in NJ.

There is a train to NYC.

You cannot go wrong in New Providence....

If you do move- check out the Newcomer's Club- very active and nice people (most w/ young kids)...

I live in New Providence and it is a great place to live. Top schools in the state, plenty of convience, and you can reach NYC in 45 minutes without traffic. There is a train, but a lot of people like me just take Route 78 to Newark Penn Station and take the trains from there (there are not a lot of trains running to NYC in NP). NP also benefits from its proximity to other great towns - Millburn, Summit, Westfield, etc. Of course, you get what you pay for - expect to pay about $11,500 for property tax and $750,000 for a 4 Bed Colonial.
