Default Towns and schooling again!

I am still struggling to find a town or area to live in which is reasonable, has good schools and reasonable access into Manhatten, Grand Central station. At the moment I am staying in Jersey City, Washington Blvd.

I did look at Lyndhurst, but am not sure. Also Rutherford doesn't seem to far but there seems to be an airport nearby and possibly too much aircraft noise.

I've been to Princeton Junction, but this seems too far out from Grand Central Station.

Therefore could anyone point out some towns I could consider and possibly visit this weekend. I'm sure I'm missing somewhere obvious!

I'm from London, England, so am not really that familiar with NJ.

Any help most gratefully received. Many thanks.

You can check out Metuchen, East Brunswick, OldBridge, and South Amboy. Plainsboro and Princeton are good too but you may find the commute too long. All these towns are 1 hour bus or train ride away. South Amboy has a 1/2 hr boat ride to Manhatten.

Montclair, Verona, Cedar Grove Caldwell, all these are accessible to train and bus service into Manhattan. Schools are great and so are the taxes these towns are in Essex County....suggest getting a realator to help.

What price range of housing are you looking for? Verona, Montclair and Cedar Grove are definitely good towns with lower taxes. West Orange is also nice but the taxes are a little higher. The Caldwells and Roseland are also nice towns.

Depending on your budget, many people down by the shore take the ferry into the city from Monmouth county (Belford, Highlands or Atlantic Highlands). It is nice to be close to the city but far away at the same time, and have the beach and parks as we do here.

good luck
