If you see a wreck (not involved), you stop but they are unhurt, do you have to wait for the police anyway?
ALMOST happened today. Some speeding ****er comes down the road going lane to lane comes up behind and starts tailgating another car in front of me. Deer crosses road and guy being tailgated brakes hard. They almost hit.
That got me to thinking. Now I certainly would call police to tell them the tailgating ****er was at fault just to make sure he get cited. I cant stand creepy drivers. However waiting for the local constabulary to get around to arriving can cost alot of time if noone is hurt... so what is the law?

At fault for what? Almost causing an accident? Sorry, but I doubt that is going to get a very serious response. Now, if an accident took place, it would have been pretty cut and dry in terms of what happened, and in those cases, the person who ran into the back of another person is always at fault.

The officer should not write a ticket if he did not witness the incident. If he does it will be tossed in court. You as a private citizen can respond to municipal court and sign a summons. As for people getting cut off and accidents almost happening I see this happening 100's of times a day .

We would probably stay if we had time just to make sure the person got a ticket.
We've called cops and followed someone home that was driving drunk although the town was very slow to respond and he some how made it home without hitting anything.

Ive called the number they put up along the highways twice and I dont think I'll bother to do it again. They seemed like they didnt care and each time all I was told was that they will check to see if there is a car in the area that can respond. I gave lic#s and descriptions and they told me unless the patrol car finds them there is nothing they can do.
As for an accident, I have reported a bunch. I'll call the local police dispatch office and let them know there was an accident but I've never given my name or info, they have never asked either. Having been invloved in 7 accidents so far (Only one charged to me) no-one has ever stopped to see if we were ok or to be a witness. Even the one were I woke up bloody in the hospital not remembering what happened, cops say no witnesses and whoever hit me kept going. Yet it happened on a sunny afternon with people all around. People suck!

I called that number once, the driver in front of us for about ten miles seemed like he was drunk. Weaving all over the place and almost caused three accidents on the Turnpike. Who knows if anything was done, but I felt better just in case!!
