We are offered NJM where I work, but my rates through Allstate are actually cheaper. Might be because I have been with them for so long and have never had any claims ::::knocking on wood::::
I miss NJM. We had them when we lived in NJ and even after we moved to NH we received a few dividend checks. We pay a decent rate for insurance now but I miss those dividend checks. Do they still do that?
Haven't gotten the bill - won't til December anyways.
But.... the hydrant is literally on my front lawn, FD is 15 ft away (read: across the street); I can't see mine going up much. I'm def. in the low 3's, but I've got a helluva lot less than the rest of you
you limit is multiplied by the number of years you have been insured with them..did you know that? So if you have 500K coverage.. multiply it by the number of years and this is your coverage!!
are you sure about that? that doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.
most homeowers policies have some sort of inflation guard coverage built in, ie. automatic coverage increase of 2-3% per year or something along those lines.
as far as your policy is concerned (as someone previously mentioned), lack of hydrants, distance to the nearest fire station, lack of paid fire dept etc. all factor in to the fire insurance portion of the premium. Insurance Companies essentially rate each fire companies response time etc. i'd also suggest increasing your deductible, that should help you save a few bucks.
it never hurts to shop around. i'd suggest contacting an independent agent in your area, someone who represents different companies. ask your friends neighbors etc. who they use and if they are happy with their agent. price should not be the only consideration, service counts for a lot, especially if you should ever need to file a claim.
Jeez Tahiti-NJM must like you more than me! I'm paying $475 a year! I've even got a fire hydrant within spitting distance of my front door and I'm less than five miles from the fire station. Well, come to think of it I think everyone in High Bridge is less than five miles from the fire station

i've been with them for 18 yrs (car), and have homeowners for about 16 yrs - 1 claim. maybe that has something to do with it?

I've done environ. remediation work for NJM and the claims rep. explained this to me... she said "well the homeowner has 1million coverage but they have been with us for 3 years so they actually have 3million coverage!!" - Maybe it's just on 3rd party claims but that's what she said!

Possibly-I've been with them for nearly 10 years but only 3 on my own (I was insured under my parents policy while I was living at home.
