Ryland Inn went out of business and I believe the restaurant property were actioned off. If their website says they are temporarily closed, maybe it will start under a new management.

I'm pretty sure that the Ryland Inn is where I got married the first time, in 1978. It was a really nice place.

A series of situations caused the restaurant to close -- and I think it's been closed since around May/June 2007.

There's a history to the story, which is perhaps not important, however, prior to closing, Craig Shelton (the chef-owner; he bought in a few partners years ago), had been trying work through several situations which had caused a great deal of difficulty. Anyway, the restaurant closed and the bank (I think Valley National, at the time) was forclosing. Prior to the forclosure, there were several workouts being looked at and the property was being shopped. Several months ago, I got a call from an attorney regarding the property.

I think Shelton owed about $3.8m at the time. We looked at the property but weren't interested. After a period of time, the bank forclosed and the property went to a sheriff's auction. Only a couple of bidders showed. A local developer went to somewhere around $1.5m or so, dropped out and of course the bank went home with it. Since then, I was told the bank had dropped their price to somewhere in the "high 2's" or something like that.

Again, I don't know what's been going on recently. As a side note -- the place was beautiful, and Craig Shelton is a great chef.

The McLoone's in Sea Bright, right? I wouldn't say it is romantic per se--it does have a great view of the Shrewsbury River though. We go there regularly in the summer, and the food is good, but nothing spectacular. The McLoone's at Pier Village I also would not categorize as particularly romantic.

*Note: I do not categorize any restaurant I take my two-year-old to as romantic, and we take her to both of those places.

If you want to go all out in Central Jersey, then Nicholas is the place to go. https://www.restaurantnicholas.com/night1.html
