Ive done Disney World many times:
To save on a hotel. Stay in Kissimmee at a hotel with a free shuttle. You pay to be near the park and there are a variety in Kissimmee from awful to awesome but most far less expensive than adjacent properties or Lake Buena Vista area.

gee, i'm confused. i guess you've been to disney then, and dropped thousands of dollars on that "stupid place" since quote: "well anytime i got to any of those places all i see and hear are people arguing and children screaming." but then you said you don't need to spend thousands of dollars to make your kids happy, so i guess either you're a) someone who DOES spend thousands of dollars to make your kids happy, since you seem to have this insider knowledge about the behavior of EVERY SINGLE person who goes to Disney, or b) you've never been to Disney and therefore don't really know about the arguing and screaming that may go on.
have fun at Great Adventure - it's much classier than Disney.

if you read my post i said i have not been to great adventure in 20 years. and yes i have been to disney before children.i never said every single child.i actually have been to disney several times since i had family members who work for disney in fl and get in for free and have a home there. so i would not know about spending thousands of dollars. and i will have a good time at six flags im sure. thanks..

Interesting. I'm one of these people that sees the glass as half full. I read a lot before going with my 3 1/2 year old. I saw people that say 3 1/2 is too young and they were miserable. Then I read about people that went and had a great time. I'm with you tahiti. It must all be in the attitude. I was at Disney in August. One day it poured and the other days it was sweltering. We had a great time anyway. No, we had an awesome time. I don't remember any crying or screaming children. In fact, I was shocked at how well behaved the kids were in those long lines. You know what else. All of those parents were talking to their kids. Engaging them so they wouldn't fuss while they were on line. Probably more talking time then most kids get from their busy working parents. My daughter has also not stopped talking about the trip. Not a day goes by that we don't talk about who we saw and what we did.
I'm not saying that you have to go to Disney World to get all of this. My daughter also talks about our trips to the Popcorn zoo, and the farm and the park and the boardwalk. You are right, you can take your kids out and around locally...but if no one goes to Disney it sounds like some of your family members wont have jobs...see...the glass is till half full in my book...I was helping the economy by going

You're very preachy and you like to think you are so much better than everyone else....but here is something to consider....a lot of people don't have any credit card debt to begin with and can easily EASILY afford to go to Disney for a week. Try not to hate those who didn't run up credit card bills and don't have to stay home to save the 2k to pay it off.

On the Disney front....
I am thinking of going next year - even though I'm out of my mind for doing so - any tips on how to do it ON THE CHEAP? Without staying in a place that would make me feel like I wish Chevy Chase was there filming???

i can probably rent you a timeshare on the cheap. seriously. i can get 2 bedrooms or 1 bedroom with a pullout, and full kitchen. that way, you can have breakfast at the unit, you can pack sandwiches and drinks and carry it in a backpack in the park (we've done this), and, the thing with the Kissimmee area is you can ALWAYS find cheap food, as long as you search outside the park.
we've done disney enough to where we can easily go pretty inexpensively. you can drive down for about $300/rt (gas), meals around $300-400, and tkts (which will be the bulk of the expense). we buy VERY few souvenirs (we've kind of trained the kids, lol). i want to say, minus tickets, our trip this past april cost somewhere around $1600 (but we took the autotrain down and drove back - subtract about $500 for the train part if we drove both ways).

I like "that stupid place".
Try smiling and laughing when you are there...it helps!
