decent, inexpensive dog-friendly hotel?
Hi all, I'm driving up to visit family in Clifton, but their house is too full for me to stay there with my new dog and preserve my sanity.
Does anyone know of a clean dog-friendly hotel/motel somewhere within an hour's drive of Clifton? Price is a major issue...but I don't want bedbugs either.
Thanks!

Scorp - a lot more hotels allow dogs than you would think. Let me do some research on this, I know the area well. I will get back to you by days end.
I also chuckled at your "wants Cuban food!" LOL would you like some recommendations for that in NJ too?

Thank you so much!! I grew up in Clifton but I've been gone a while, and the one pet friendly place I knew skyrocketed in price.
Actually last time I was up I took them for great Cuban in Union City. I can't remember the name of the place, grr. I used to get it all the time in Tampa...it's scarce here in Durham, NC

Here is a tool:
petswelcome.com
Now, this hotel: Marriott Residence Inn East Rutherford is listed. My company uses this hotel frequently for guests/trainees, etc. - they are always very pleased. It is convenient to Rt 3 and close to Clifton.

OK - on Cuban Food....
I recommend Mundo Latino in North Bergen. Latin American Cafeteria in Union City is still quite yummy too!
If you want more of an "occasion" place (with the price tag to match) go to Azucar in Jersey City. TO DIE FOR. And it is "Cuban" not a "Latin Fusion" place...it's CUBAN. From the heavenly appetizer tower to the amazing natilla at desert!

OP - Try both La Quinta or Howard Johnson. Both are on route 3, one east bound, the other west bound. As far as cuban food, well, let's see, there's cafe cafe in East Rutherford, or even La Estrella del Caribe in Secaucus, or def Latin American Cafeteria. Now if you just want your local neighborhood cuban place, try El sol de Cuba in Passaic.

There is a LaQuinta in Clifton on Route 3. My wife & I stayed there with our 2 dogs while our home was being worked on. If you want additional info on dog parks, daycare etc, let me know!!!

We also stayed with our dog at a very nice La Quinta Inn on the West Coast- very, very impressed. Even though we keep our dog very clean, we were suprised that this particular hotel had pet-friendly rooms. However, we had family (without pets) stay at another
La Quinta Inn in the Midwest and they were really disappointed in the room itself, so I would at least check out some rooms before making the reservation. Good luck!
