Anyone see this yet? A seagull goes into a store in Michigan and helps himself to a bag of Doritos every day.

There's a similiar story about a pigeon in the UK... all the people leave there change so that the store owner doesn't have to foot the bill for everything he steals : ))

This is funny! Reminds me of a trip I took to the Caymans MANY years ago w/ DH. I hung a bathings suit on our hotel balcony to dry. It was gone. I thought MAYBE it blew away, but it was hard to see that happening as there had been no wind. At breakfast I overheard another woman saying a necklace she took off and left on a table on her balcony was missing. With that a waitress handed us a local paper that said a local bird was known for doing this, once they found her nest LINED with missing items. LOL

You're correct. I did google to see if I could find something to read about it and thought that's what it said.

I do a great deal of clamming and I've seen seagulls follow me out. I throw back chowder clams, and they'll grab them out of the water - clams larger than a clenched fist.

They're smart enough (or have enough instinct) to then drop them from a height onto the pavement, just enough to crack them open.

We treat these animals as though they don't know better, but that shows some complex thinking and emotions: memory, patience, opportunity, cause-and-effect, etc...
