My fellow posters, This economic crisis started w/ the real estate subprime mess, has spread to all credit markets and it has grown like a cancer as a global tragedy. We are witnessing a historic economic failure. Whoever is cutting the onions put a stop to it, we all crying ova here.

This is contagion on a global scale. Consumer confidence is gone, investor confidence is gone and unfortunately the media is fanning the flames because they know this crap will get them ratings.
Is it bad out there? Yes. Are we on the verge of another Depression, no. However, people are going to have to get used to something and its called economic contraction. Economists predict 3 quarters of recessive growth and the definition of a recession is 2 quarters with recessive growth. So say goodbye to the go-go 00s- let the market contract (which has to happen) and things will pick up. The DOW was at this level in 2003, which means in 5 years it has seen growth of 40%. That just isn't sustainable.
If you want to cry for someone, cry for Iceland- the American economy is much more resiliant due to its size, but with a small economy like Iceland, you can see how this is seriosly altering their whole world.

I believe in MY country and I know we will be back to business as usual very soon...keep the faith kids..keep the faith! Everyone go out and do some shopping this weekend and stay away from the media : )

aren't these people (Wall Streeters) supposed to smart? Isn't it BUY LOW, SELL HIGH? For crying out loud, can't they just calm the hell down?

They are smart T... the will make a killing soon enough - buying great stock at low ball prices right now - you will see yet another "bubble" 5 to 10 yrs. from now and yet another recession 10 to 15 yrs form now...
