And here we have it, the natural growth and contraction of the economic cycle. Granted this growth was a little enhanced by the housing and credit bubble which might make for a bumpy landing, but these things happen all the time.

Remember the .com burst in the 2001 timeframe? Another example of economic contraction. However in that case it was a very well engineered soft landing.

My neighbor..Mr. Investment guy - has been on my case for years, telling me to invest more, buy stocks, etc. - well he got his statement yesterday..he's down 80g's... I told him that I was down as well...$800.00
Wiley, that is why I have no stocks, down nothing. Everything I do is secure.
This weekend I'm hitting a Casino in Illinois on the KY border, about a 2 hour drive from Nashville. Maybe i'll gamble like $25. Todays stock market is like going to a Casino.
Stock Now up! +19.43---Looked again, -31.78. It looks like a roller coaster, now -100.36. This is crazy

*shrug* A cool head is what it takes to get through this.

I'm smiling a bit this morning, I made a few hundred in the past hour... and I'm not working on Wall Street. Sure, I have to pay more taxes than if I kept (and some stocks I am), but still - money is money right now.

Guys,

I've brought it up before here, but I think I need to bring it up again. We don't know how lucky we are. A positive virtue of me moving to an area that borders Mexico is that I am able to glance first hand from 500 yards away (El Paso to Juarez) at the Third World, and thank God every night it's not me living there. People living in most of the U.S.A. never have exposure to this. I live in one of the very few areas that does, and I am grateful in a sense, because it has completely altered my perspective about this country in the time I've lived here. We take running water, electricity, cooling/heating, sanitation, etc, for granted. Someone might get annoyed because their hot water in their shower isn't sufficient on any given morning, for instance. You really have to see Mexico up close and personal to realize how FAR, FAR better off we are as a nation than most of the world. We might,as JERSEY MAN says, have to cut back in the short term. In a place such as Juarez Mexico, there's nothing to cut back on. These people live their lives daily on the balls of their ass.

I think the only smart people out there are in NJ!! You all seem to be thinking the same thing I've been thinking.

I've been saying this for weeks, this downturn is making for great ratings for the media, that's fueling the hysteria and it's becoming a vicious cycle.

I wish people would just CALM DOWN!!

I think we'd all be a lot better off if it wasn't jammed down our throats every waking moment.

It is what it is. We cannot control what is going on out there, but we can control how we react to it. Everyone needs to take a deep breath, and have a glass of "house brown". On me.

Rumor has it that even Governor Corzine might be eating hot dogs. His net worth dropped by 200 million. Goldman Sachs stock has plunged. Maybe if it keeps going down he will know how the average person lives.

I'm investing in prisons. The way I see it, the worse it gets the more people will steal. Prisons...way of the future. I just hope these big wig fat cats are residents at the wing that's dedicated to me.
