Having been involved in martial arts and general self-defense and awareness training, I can say that on a serious note, it's good to look into things. Prudence breeds awareness, where paranoia breeds fear, awareness being much more effective in prevening attacks against your person.

If you're interested in this topic in general, I VERY highly recommend a book called 'The Gift of Fear' by a man named Gavin DeBecker. It's a fascinating read about criminology and is worth its weight in gold for helping you prevent becoming a victim of violent crime.

Here's a tip, open up google, then copy and paste the subject or header of whatever forward you get, chances are it will bring up the snopes page.

If you don't have luck with either, take the main words of what the forward is about, then paste into google.
