Default What section of Freehold / Howell is the nicest to live in?

I'm thinking of moving to Freehold NJ or Howell NJ and I know that there are good areas of these towns and not so good areas. Can someone tell me what part of Freehold and Howell are the nicest to live in and has the better school district etc... and the areas to stay away from? I will have to communte into NYC everyday and want to know what location would be the better choice.

Howell is a long commute to NYC. I would stick with Freehold. All of Freehold is nice in my opinion, but I grew up there so I'm biased. The area in Freehold that has a bad rep is Freehold Boro. You should check it out yourself though and see how you feel. I don't know your price range, but I highly recommend Freehold Pointe (it's new construction by Centex). Here's the website just in case...

If you need any help, feel free to ask. My relatives all live in Howell so I'm familiar with both areas.

I am from NY and have been in Freehold Township over 20 year (there are two Freeholds, township and boro) they share some services but are two separate towns. Northern Howell borders freehold and colts neck and commute is about same. you can view their town websites and you can also get school info on greatschools.net . Commuting is usually by car or bus since we don't have train line to city. East Freehold is slightly closer and convenient to rt 18.

Even though freehold is north of howell, the latter provides easier access to roads for new york. Its alot closer to the parkway and turnpike via 195. Most of Howell is very good. I would avoid the area just north of the 195. The area is called "Freewood Acres" Other than that, Howell is beautiful

I would say Stonehurst in Freehold is a very nice area. West Freehold is also very nice.

Freewood acres in Howell is not a bad area to buy a house. Its not like its high in crime or anything. Its just a little more run down than the rest of howell. You could certainly do better. Another thing about the area, residents usually complain about a smell in the area for years. See link below. I dont know if the problem was fixed or not

I think Freewood Acres is the former Russian neighborhood. Hence, the area has the look and feel of a Russian peasant village with a barrack-style homes. Also, many of those homes have well water. Otherwise, it's not a bad neighborhood.
