I lived here for 2 years. My car was damaged by kids, full soda cans thrown at my house- cops said all the kids get in in school court and nothing usually gets done. NICE. Bungalow was cheap- district has free pre-school and before/after care as its an Abbott district. The amusement area is there as well, so summer can be crowded. I was glad to move out myself.

Try Middletown, Matawan, Hazlet. Though finding 160,000 houses will be harder.

Do yourself, your family and your friends a favor by staying in God's country. Keansburg is awash with rapists, child ****ographers, sex trafficking, closet pedophiles and drug pushers. Then again, they move around alot, hoping not to get caught. The constant police protection on the streets is something somewhat recent ever since African Americans and Hispanics created a community there. Some of the worst crimes were committed when it was an all white town, some happening right in the street and no police were to be found. It was a little ghetto then, and it's a little ghetto now. When I was a kid, the boardwalk was ok, but now it's even worse. Try Kennywood.

Default why move to nj?

I cannot understand why anyone would want to move here. I cant wait to move out of here. i was in virginia over the weeked visiting friends who move there in august. and let me tell you what a difference. taxes are so low and schools are excellent. the own a 4 br 3 baths with and acre of land for 147,000 and yearly taxes at 675 i saw the bill.. they can do whatever they want on their land. no permits for sheds or stupid things like the twp of aberdeen does. they burn their leaves on their property. so laid back im honestly thinking about moving there. i have had it in this state. my taxes are now about 4,000 year for 2 br 1 bath in aberdeen when does it stop.

sick of nj.

Default Moving to Keansburg and need advice.

We are planing to move to Keansburg in June or July and wanted to get some input in the area.

We've traveled to central NJ in the past looking for areas that we can afford and we looked at Long Branch and Monmouth Beach, but Keansburg seems to be more affordable and closer to NYC. But I've been reading a lot of negative things about the area in other post.

Now I understand that Keansburg is going through a redevelopment stage which should make things better if they are indeed as bad as people are saying.

Also can anybody tell me what the high school there is like? as I have teenage dauther that will be attending school.

Any info you can give us would be a big help. Thanks all.

Where are you moving from? Personally I wouldn't move to Keansburg but a lot of people do and love it there. It's less expensive for a reason and if you have never been there you should go and spend some time there. You would be very centrally located and close to the beach and the city. I'm not familiar with the school system but I'm sure there are web sites making comparisons. Monmouth Beach is much nicer but much more expensive. Long Branch is a mix of both. Good luck.

I would highly disagree with anyone who puts Keansburg down. I moved and bought a house here a year and half ago and it was the best decision I ever made. I love being near the water. Who can brag that they live in a town that has a nice bayfront, an amusement park, there own town shops, and yes I can walk in the dead of nite and feel very safe! There are lots of cops and you always feel safe. Unless you don't like kids and young families then dont move here. The town is a great location since its still close to New York City and other beaches on the Oceanside. Also I would like to add drugs and such can be found in any town!!! I grew up in the so-called rich town of Monroe New Jersey, if you wanna find drugs and criminals you can always find it. Also Keansburg is definitely on the upswing, yes it was an old beachtown, but new luxury condos starting at nearly half a million are being built on both sides of the boardwalk, lots of renovations are going on, and the amusement park is not going anywhere from what I hear, its a great asset to the town. I would love to raise a family here someday!

I grew up in the rich town of Monroe, New Jersey, and our cars were broken into by out of towners. Crime happens in every town! Some of the worse litter are in rich towns cause people just dont care. I am so happy I moved here a year and half ago. Yes its an old beach town, but the positives definitely outweigh the negatives. Theres a lot of new construction going on and luxury housing coming in. I considered Middletown, Matawan and Hazlet but Keansburg was definitely better! But if you have a thing against kids or young families then definitely don't move here. Keansburg has lower taxes, less traffic, more of a town setting, a waterfront, an amusement park, scenic areas, and I love it and cant wait to raise a family here!

I'm glad you like your town so much but you have posted many flasehoods, you're blindly ignoring many problems.
Keansburg has been the armpit of northern monmouth for decades, parts of it are run down and dangerous. Sure many places have drug problems but keansburg has more than it's share. Keansburg is a place for people without a a lot of money to get a start in home ownership, if they like you are willing to ignore very serious quality of life issues.
good luck, and enjoy keansburg, to those considering the town, visit with your eyes open, for the same money that you'd spend in the 'burg you can find a place in nearby towns minus the issues.
