Default Best Special Education (Autism) Schools in NJ?

Hello everyone

Hoping for any advice from the friendly folk on this forum.

Our situation is - we have a two-year-old boy diagnosed on the autistic spectrum. He is currently receiving Early Intervention support and attends a Montessori school here in Westchester County NY where we rent.

We are looking to buy next year when our lease expires and are looking for a home in New Jersey (more in our price range, and closer to family).

I commute to Long Island University Brooklyn (Flatbush MTA Station) so ideally we are looking to settle somewhere close to a train line running into Manhattan.

We would appreciate any insider tips on what schools and school districts offer the best special education services for children on the autistic spectrum. Any recommendations of service providers you have had a good experience with would be especially welcome!

Many thanks!

I'd look into Eden Institute (Eden Family of Services). I don't have any experience with them but I know people that work there and have worked with the autistic adults they have in their employment program.

Although it's a bit south , Brick. Brick has a very high rate of autistic children. Why? Because they have alot of good schools for them there....so alot of families wind up moving to Brick. My sister lives in Brick and she told me this. When researching into a town for them to live, she couldn't understand why there seemed to be a high rate of autistic kids there...and that's why.

There is a school in Wharton NJ called Celebrate the Children that uses the DIR or Floortime method. Go to Celebrate the Children for more info about the school. Time magazine did an article about them a couple of years ago. It's a great school. Good luck with whatever you school you choose!
