Question Bridgewater to Port Authority?

OK, this may be a new one but I am considering a commute to Long Island City, you go where the work is!

I am have driven in, and hour and 1/2 to and hour and 3/4 but that is leaving at 6:30 am in good weather.

I am told that I can take 1 subway from the Port Authority but what is the best way to get there? Bus, Train? I have seen the buses but I have not had much luck finding info on schedules, cost or stops. I would rather take it from a place where i can leave my car in a lot because I know street parking is usually frowned upon where the bus stops are located.

Any ideas??

There is a park & ride in branchburg on Rt 202 but not sure if they issue new permits to park there anymore. Alternately, there is a bus that makes a stop at bridgewater mall and goes into mid-town. Also, you can take the Raritan Valley line to Newark and change trains to take the NJTransit to New York Penn station - from where you might find a connection to LI City.

I'd say RVL to Newark Penn, to NY Penn, take the 7 or some such (whichever is what you need) to get yourself there. Wouldn't be the most enjoyable commute, but definitely doable.
