Great small towns near Pennington & Cranbury

Thanks to all for the reality check. If I shorten my list of requirements to:
excellent schools, under 30 minutes to Cranbury and Pennington, $650k max but prefer $550k or under, and other young families around, it sounds like the best bet is Plainsboro then Pennington.
Just curious about Pennington...where do people there work? Doesn't seem to be many local employers so people must commute (perhaps to companies along the 1?)

people in Pennington commute to Manhattan and Philadelphia and work locally at Bristol Myers and Merrill Lynch.
This article is several years old....there is a Star Bucks in Pennington now!


With a 600K house budget, you should be able to find something decent in Plainsboro, West Windsor or Pennington.

There is a J&J in Skillman which is also not far. Firmenich is not far (Plainsboro) and FMC is fairly close (Rt 1 in Princeton). Pennington is also a nice commute to downtown Trenton. Yes, the Rt 31 commute sucks in traffic. I used to commute there to see my midwife (who works at Capital Health so I suppose that's another local employer ). But I took a lot of back roads from Somerset County (Rt 206) down to their office by the Rt 31 circle - I-95 entrance so it was not bad. I don't know why someone would say not to consider PA unless you don't want to be out of state. I used to commute from an area 10 minutes passed Newtown, PA into Trenton. It wasn't bad (25 minutes). There was some traffic in Newtown on the Rt 413 bypass but I could take Rt 532 all the way up to I-95. That traffic was still nothing compared to the Rt 287 commute in Middlesex and Somerset Counties.

Even in this slow market, you won't get a lot of house in West Windsor for 600K.......
