But I do have to roll out the Jersey 'tude on a daily basis when I travel out of state...to my job...in MANHATTAN. I get crap EVERYDAY from New Yorker coworkers about being from NJ. You're gonna die of cancer in NJ. All the water is polluted in NJ. All the air is poisonous in NJ. NJ is ugly. NJ is gross. I feel really sorry for you because you live in NJ.
Yeah. OK. My commute does suck a little. It takes 2 hours to get to our office...isn't that just about how long it takes you also? But I live in a whole different state in a town that offers very limited public transportation. You live 12 miles away, right in the next borough. What's YOUR excuse? The MTA is raising fares and cutting service next year, right? Yeah. Keep feeling superior about your standard of living.
I wouldn't live in any of the outer boroughs if you PAID me. I toyed with the idea of living in Manhattan for a little while, but nah---I don't want to be living with a freaking roommate when I'm 45 years-old so we can split our $3,000 rent for a tiny 2-bed in a questionable neighborhood. I don't want to live in a place that's wall-to-wall miserable people everwhere I turn. And as for Lawn Guylanners with the superior attitude---are you seriously kidding me? Most of your 'island' is a cesspool---literally. If ANYBODY has less of a right to play the Dirty Jersey card it's YOU...and perhaps your fellow New Yorkers from Staten Island.
What're these people constantly bashing on Jersey for?
-Pollution
-Traffic
-Strip malls
-Bad hair
-Annoying accents
Yeah OK. We may have some of that, in SOME parts of NJ, but that's ALL I EVER see everywhere I turn in Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens and Staten Island, except instead of strip malls, I see dusty roach-infested bodegas. That's why you come to our malls on the weekend to do all your major shopping, right? And your 'beaches' are so clean that you clog OUR shores every summer?
Oh yeah...and your public school system SUCKS!
And there are absolutely no cancer causing agents in NY air & water at all whatsoever.
Is that what you meant by "Jersey 'tude"?

HAHAHA Oh my god I couldn't agree more.....
No I generally try to be polite when I'm visiting, especially when I made trips to TN to visit friends. I thought it was funny that every stranger wants to chat with you about nothing, and i played along. However, when it comes time to be assertive to out of line strangers, it's not as common?
But that weird New York superiority thing annoys me too. I've always known new yorker's and been friends with them, but I've noticed that along with the "cooler than everyone, even New jerseyans" attitude comes the "I never leave the city for anything EVER" attitude. Have you ever tried to get a NYC dwelling friend to come over and visit YOU in jersey? IT'S IMPOSSIBLE!!!!! THey never want to leave!
Don't get me wrong, I love NYC dearly, and would live there if I could afford it (which i never will). But isn't it just a little creepy that there are actual creepy NYC dwellers who haven't left their own city in a decade or more? WTF? Get over yourselves! It's as if they think they will be less cool being seen in NJ.
I've always been under the impression that NJ and NYC are like siblings or best friends. We kind of need each other and support each other. So why the gay rivalry? Besides NJ isn't even that "uncool". Now CONNECTICUT.....THAT is an uncool place. kidding kidding......sorta but not really....

I disagree. I have vast experience and I can say that real NYrker's don't have to try and act superior. The ones that do are just posers.

Possibly the posers feel insecure.

I've had to use my NJ 'tude a few times this past week with a few locals who think it's normal to put their noses where they don't belong. I don't mind people asking questions, when I'm friendly with them, but a lot of the locals have nothing better to do than to pry into others lives.

It's hard to find but I can get Taylor ham here. If need be, I'm only 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 hours away from "home".

Nooooo! Say it's not so monack! You not only did not grow up with Taylor Ham (Standing and placing hand over heart), but you've just decided to come out on a national message board. Don't worry, everything will be OK.
