New Jersey gets shunned for federal subsidies, that we end up paying for, with state tax dollars.
How much is the national government going to pay for the new train tunnel proposed between NY & NJ?
Not as much as if we were any other state with greater needs. But it has to be done, one way or the other. So we pay in the long run.
No?????

Actually, THE Tunnel just got a huge sum of cash from the fed over this past summer.
But again, the majority of our costs in taxes for all of us are from state taxes, going to state expenses.

I lived and worked in NJ as an adult for 8 years and I never thought the state income tax to be exceptionally high when compared to any of the other states i've lived in. In fact, it's pretty much middle of the pack. Especially when you consider the level of service you get in NJ compared to those other places.
Even at 7% the sales tax is pretty standard for metropolitan areas all over the country.
The taxes that are high are the property taxes. In most towns half of that money is going to your school district. The other half gets split between your town and your county. That has nothing to do with the State.
You could always opt for crappy schools.
Or you could pay attention to what the last 3 governors have been saying and vote for municipal consolidation.
Or you could stop pushing the sprawl paradigm. More people using fixed infrastructure and services means a lower cost per person.

Well lets start with the School Construction Corp. 8.5 Billion wasted and no one has to answer for it?
How about many state workers double dipping for pensions and how many of those are no show jobs?
In regard to the 7% sales tax. It wasn't needed since half of the money went back for rebates anyway.

You also can't blame a guy who hasn't finished his first term for all of NJs problems - Corzine inherited a hot mess from the borrow and spend crowd in Trenton. If you vote chances are you approved half the debt in the first place in one of the ballot measures. I know it's good for the talk radio ratings to trash every politician in office (because it's easier than talking about how to fix the problems) but seriously folks. Florio, Kean, Whitman, McGreevey, Corzine - this stuff gets old - it amazes me that anyone would volunteer to govern you people. All the theatrics about NJ having the worst politicians, c'mon, have you never lived anywhere else? Do you not watch the news?
What kills me is that the people that complain the most are usually the same people that are net beneficiaries of the tax code. It reminds of Robert DeNiro's character in Taxi Driver, he's obsessed with the scumbags ruining his city and he's so fixated on it that he doesn't see that he's one of those scumbags.
Everyone wants to live in their 4 bedroom house on 1/2 acre then they want smooth roads with no traffic, they want the best schools, the safest towns, they want high-paying large firms around, good transit to get to those high paying jobs, excellent fire service to keep their HO insurance down, they want parks and libraries and open space, they want clean drinking water, etc, etc . . . but they don't want to pay for it.
Grow up.

Great, great post. There you have it in 3 lines the absolute truth. I know you could post page after page but some people think everything is fine and dandy.
