I will agree, sometimes these days I think IGNORING is the way to go. Worked for Obama.

It's so funny because I'm "white" and DH is latino. I never considered us a "mixed" couple until we visited friends in the Panhandle in 1992.... then I was like "OK, I'm NEVER leaving the Northeast..."
I have dark hair and crazy odd color changing eyes (think mood ring, then add hazel eyes... and make it kind of mood and season oriented color changing hazel. Creeps my gf out in the winter when my eyes are so dark they're almost black.... anyways), and my gf has blond hair, blue eyes - and she's a protestant! Oh noes!

To my grandmother, we would have been considered a "mixed" couple, because my family is straight up Irish Catholic.... of course, my mom is protestant, too.

Now the couples that really get it bad? Mixed race homosexual couples. One of my friends is dating a hispanic guy, friend is black. They catch bs from all kinds of random directions.... the overwhelming majority of people just don't care. Seems to be a rare few who still freak out.

I think this was mostly coming from the party, as a "you must have a woman or minority running mate!" mandate, with Palin pushed in front. Hell, Palin is why my gf didn't want to support McCain.

Agreed to an extent, BUT he could have made a far better choice if he wanted a woman OR a minority running mate. Why not Kay Bailey Hutchinson? Prob because they wanted to go with the "Washington Outsider" thing... which is pretty hard to do when the top of the ticket is there for 30+ years. (BUT the opposite is true, my candidate was touting CHANGE and then chose BIDEN.. so touche.)

Bottom line on the cross burnings is that until Badfish posted it - I never even heard about it and I'm a news junkie. I think that's where we are. I'm glad for it. I want to live in an America where EVERY person is judged for who they are and what they are... not based on their color, gender, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation - etc.

What I'm trying to have a dialogue about is whether or not we're going to see more of this, especially in New Jersey where have a more heterogeneous population with regard to political affiliations. Our rural counties have experienced a shift of sorts in the last 10 years or so in the sense that many more liberal folks have moved "out to the country." Because of this, I would say that you would more likely find more Obama supporters in Warren or Sussex Counties than you would in any county of comparable size in the rural South or Midwest. That being said, what does that mean for these areas? I have never seen such anger (and fear) directed at a President-not even Clinton or Bush. So what I'm asking is what this means for New Jersey.

Uh No that is not what i am trying to do..just basically I'm not happy with the results either but actions such as that SOLVE nothing

Sheesh lighten up pal

I hadn't either! Its actually surprising until you think "It was probably just the town dumbass looking for attention". Maybe someone who got kicked in the groin by a donkey, ate lead paint chips, and took about a billion whacks to the head with a sledgehammer. Imho, noone remotely considered intelligent (or even reasonable) would be so incredibly backwards as to do this.

We HAVE come a long way. My grandmother (German Lutheran) and grandfather (German/Italian Catholic) were considered "mixed" back in the day.

I personally wonder why we were created different (racially) - heck if I were in control I'd make us all a nice mutted tone and say - "No go co exist!"

LOL. No, at a BBQ with my friend - who was a White German Christian who converted to Judaism when she married her white Russian Jewish hubby.... her neighbor asked me what my background was. I said Greek, German and Italian. She asked how my last name could possibly be ****ez then... I said because my new hubby is Cuban/Spanish. She got all and said "So you married outside of your RACE?" I said "No, he's human... we're in the same race." People.....

Some kid was likely doing the equivalent of spraying a water gun at his mommy so he could garner some attention.

The perpetrator likely lives in his parent's basement, where his Red Bulls are kept nice and cold.

Sorry, but this hit a nerve with me, because my car was burglarized a couple of nights ago. The sense of violation these folks feel is palpable. I'd personally be taking the Willie Nelson "Whiskey for my men and beer for my horses" attitude out on the front porch at 3 am, to see if they would dare a repeat performance.
