Future of Cherry Hill?
Does anyone have any info on the direction of Cherry Hill? For one thing it seems they are trying to compete with the King of Prussia area and I can see the congestion already! So much so that I'm even beginning to dread driving down Haddonfield Road anymore. It also seems that I'm seeing more folks there from Pennsauken/Camden.
Is this going to be another town split down the middle by the economy which has been causing the middle class to dwindle?...

I think Cherry Hill has a great future. There is no reason why King of Prussia and Cherry Hill can not thrive at the same time.

I moved to Cherry Hill in April. Haddonfield Road doesn't bother me one bit but Route 70....Let's not go there. In fact, I avoid Rt. 70 at all costs. I'd much rather drive on Haddonfield Rd, Rt. 38 or even Rt. 73

They need to expand 70 and make it 3 lanes the whole way through to Medford. Simple. But that will either never happen or not in my lifetime.

Rt 70 through the Erlton section of Cherry Hill was never improved upon from the 1930s. It's like you are going through a mixed use residential area. However, I don't see how that area of the highway can be improved without displacing businesses plus a few homes. Another crimp in 70 is going west, just past the I-295 overpass.

I think you can add 1 lane W/E if you wanted to as is. (take up the median and some of the shoulder space) But yes the 2nd lane would be very tricky and might require some property being taken up. Which is why I don't see them doing it anytime soon if ever.
I think there was talk about it like 3-4 years ago but that must have died down.
The part that bothers me the most is where it goes from 3 lanes to 2 then right back to 3 because you go under a bridge. (only example off top of head is 38W near Walmart in Cherry Hill)
Most of the businesses from Grove to Kings Highway are small buildings or sturggling businesses so I would think you could take 10ft off their property if needed but surely going to **** a lot of people off.

Yea I agree,it's like they're going to have to try and fit '10 pounds of **** in a 5 pound bag'...it just ain't gonna work in that area unless they go back in time and actually tear down buildings

I know that area is congested but remember that Cherry Hill twp is 4X the size of King of Prussia, PA. To that end the size of the CH Mall is 1,300,000 square feet of retail space. The new town center in CH possibly doubles that which is about as much retail space as the KOP Mall (which is actually two malls) - currently the largest in the country.
So, at the end of the day, you're going to have more traffic in the CH area on already heavily taxed roads. Something will have to give. Rt 70 expansion has been opposed by Medford for years and it might come down to eminent domain issues. The first step was to take out the circles.
Also, keep in the mind that the state's solution to 73/70 circle is an elevated bypass, this is being opposed by businesses but probably would free up some bottlenecks in the area.
I see CH becoming even more of a retail and dining destination than it already is, traffic will always be bad in that area, it is what it is. Until you can buy the hovercraft, it's always going to be a problem.

I'm sure Shop Rite is at the head of that list.
How about Olga's Diner? When I moved that place seemed like it was hanging by a thread.
