Home search in Piscataway and Central Jersey
Hi All,
In our recent search of homes in Piscataway NJ, we found a property near W front St. (28) and Rock Ave. I am considering this because it is close to train (Dunellen) station and buses to NYC, and falls in our budget. One of my friends said most of Piscataway is good but warned me on that specific location. Can someone please help us if you have some information?
Also, can someone please suggest safe locations with good schools in central jersey within 1.5 hrs of commute to NYC?
Thanks for your suggestions in Advance!

What is your price range? Are you looking for a single family home or a townhome?

Our price range is around 350K. We prefer single family.
Thank you!

Depends on what specifically you are looking for in a house. Northern Somerset County area is within your 1.5 hour commute to NYC, and most of the schools in the area are considered VERY good, and by most definitions, the area is quite safe. Looking in the towns of Bridgewater, Green Brook, Basking Ridge, & Warren, I find 138 properties with at least 2 bedrooms, for sale at prices under $375k. That includes houses, condos and townhomes. Eliminating townhomes & condos brings the list down to a little over 50.

It's very close to Plainfield and that's not good. I'd reconsider that area. Look in Edison or East Brunswick, better locations and doable to NYC.

I don't want to exaggerate, but that can be a rough area. Particularly the area of So. Second St..
At your price point, you should be able to find a nice home in a much better neighborhood.
Generally, Piscataway is not a bad area, but this area in perhaps their worst. As was stated, Rock ave. is a border area with the city of Plainfield, High drug activity, a fair degree of gang activity also. The next traffic light down on West Front st. is also a prostitution area.
The more I think, Look elsewhere.
Sorry to be negative.

What about Edison? You can get a single family or townhome there for 350 and will be within 1.5 hours...even less if you can find something within walking distance to Metropark.

In a word, Absolutely!!!
There are many good choices through out a wide area. It is simply that the first one mentioned was perhaps the worst of an entire bunch.
Even if you heart is for some reason set on the city of Plainfield there are much better neighborhoods to be considered, that will fit the requirements you have outlined.
Just a thought, try to find a "map" of the New Jersey transit rail system. (I think it is online, although I have never looked).
Central New Jersey is the home of many rail lines, Including the "Northeast rail corridor Main line", the Raritan Valley line (the line you are considering now). and the Jersey coast lines, Each services towns that will likely fit your bill.
