How painful would commute be from Hoboken to Oakland/Franklin Lakes NJ?
Am moving from the west coast and will be working in Oakland NJ (about 5 minutes north of Franklin Lakes) and am considering living in Hoboken.
There is no train so will have to drive to work, how painful would the commute be? Am 29 and single and really do not want to live in suburban NJ.
Thanks!

That commute wouldn't be too bad. Probably about 50 minutes or so. Coming home at night you'd probably hit a bit of traffic near Lincoln Tunnel.

Yeah but there are train stations in many Northern Bergen County towns where you can park.

Are you going to be traveling during Rush Hour? If so... it may be worse than you think.
Is Hoboken your only option?
Do you want 100% city life?
You may want to consider a town like Ridgewood or Westwood in Bergen County. Even parts of Fair Lawn or Paramus. The Fairmont section of Hackensack? Sections in Wayne, NJ? Even Montclair, NJ would be a better commute. These could be some alternatives.

that is pretty much a reverse commute and I have been on 208 going East many times at the morning rush and its a nightmare however you would be 208 West, and there is no traffic that way. I do not think it would actually be that bad, most directions you are going or the reverse commute.

But I grew up in Hudson County and I can tell you this... At one point I lived in North Bergen and worked in Secaucus. It was a 6 mile commute. Without traffic, it took 3 min. to get there. But my morning ride in took me 30 min and my ride home was longer. HC is NOTHING but bottleneck traffic at rush hour. To get out of Hoboken and on to the arteries to get to Oakland in itself will be a biyatch.
I also have a friend who lives in Secaucus and works in Paramus. Again, everyone says "reverse traffic" but it takes him about an hour to get to work each morning... there is always SOMETHING in NJ to cause traffic.

Very painful, indeed!!!
Hoboken to Franklin Lakes 1 hour minimum with terrible traffic. Check out trains from Hoboken for round trips.

I live in Hoboken and visit relatives in Oakland on a regular basis. The trip is typically half an hour on a good day but during rush hour you're going to hit traffic reverse commute or not.
During rush hour, the area around Hoboken is very congested because the city is situated between two tunnels leading into the city.
If you got the money to live in Hoboken, then you can probably afford Ridgewood or if you prefer a quick hop on the bus into the city, try Fort Lee. Both have a decent town center...
Good luck!
