Default SWM/30 Needs help moving to Essex County

I have posted here before, about moving to the area to rent an apartment (East Hanover, Oranges, Montclair, Maplewood, Bloomfield, Livingston, etc), but it seems I just can't find a right area that suits me. I'm a single WM, 30, who is professional and enjoys nightlife and socializing, but everywhere I have researched around this area either seems to be extremely ghetto (Oranges, Irvington, Bloomfield, parts of Montclair) OR extremely jewish/wealthy/snobby/rich (Livingston, SHort Hills, other parts of Montclair, etc), with no real middle ground that would suit me. Can anyone help to find a middle-ground type area, that isn't TOO ghetto or TOO snobbish for a swm, 30 renter? Thanks again!!!

You're right. There isn't a lot of middle ground in Essex County. The towns are either brutally rough or super fancy. Some possible suggestions: Nutley and West Orange (but check out the area first, a lot of West Orange is nice, but some of it is pretty rough). If you're willing to live on the western side of the county, Fairfield, Verona and Cedar Grove might be worth checking out, but they may swing a bit more to the fancy and suburban side than what you're looking for. Other than that, it's hard to offer suggestions. Good luck!

Montclair is your best bet. There are few "ghetto" areas. Some areas off Bloomfield Ave or Watchung Plaza are fine. There's also Upper Montclair (Valley Rd/Bellevue Ave). Most of Bloomfield is nice. Check out the Brookdale area. Not as many rentals as south of there, but there are some. Cedar Grove and Verona have reasonable rentals and both are close to Montclair which has more nightlife/activity.

Where do you work? We just moved to PA, and love it so far. But quite honestly miss the convenience to NYC. Did you look into Hoboken or Jersey City? I think the hardest part for you to find is night life....
