Although I didn't order cajun food, we ate at a cajun place named The Crossroads in Garwood. It was very good.

Have not been here, but I recalled seeing this in the Record last week:

NorthJersey.com: Starters: The Southern Comfort Bistro (http://www.northjersey.com/betterliving/restaurantnews/Starters_The_Southern_Comfort_Bistro.html - broken link)

this place looks interesting. it isn't easy to find cajun food in northern nj, so i just may have to check it out when i'm in the area. thanks for the link.

i have to say, i'm a little surprised to see a restaurant like this set up shop in hasbrouck heights. it seems like the type of place you'd expect to find in rutherford, ridgewood, or englewood; HH has never been the type of town to attract ethnic (other than italian) or regional american restaurants, especially of the yuppie variety. but this makes three newish places that have sprouted up on the boulevard in the past year or two: there's also a cozy, polished-looking cuban restaurant across from borough hall and a tiny filipino restaurant closer to corpus christi church, although judging by the address it seems that the cajun restaurant may have actually replaced it.

regardless, i never thought i'd see the day when cajun, filipino, and cuban restaurants would open up in a town whose only downtown eating options are fast food places like chicken delight, lovey's pizza, and take-out chinese as well as a luncheonette or two. HH's downtown has always been functional but unremarkable, so this is a pleasant surprise. perhaps it's merely a coincidence (low commercial rents, perhaps?), or maybe it's a reflection of changing demographics in town. either way, i'd love to see a small restaurant row develop along the boulevard.

Head on again pbergen. Yes, this DID replace the Filipino restaurant. I have driven past and it is that same location. That was actually in and out pretty quickly. I've been to the Cuban restaurant and it's not bad. I too would like to see the Boulevard build up a bit, so it's a pleasant surprise.

too bad about the filipino restaurant, as i never got the chance to try it, but i'm glad to see the space got replaced quickly by another interesting-sounding restaurant. if i get a chance to check it out i'll definitely post something here.

The Old Bay in Downtown New Brunswick is a good Louisiana-style cajun restaurant. Neat place.
