We went to the Irish pub at The Quarter last December and there was only one other group of people in there, and this was on a Saturday night.
Seriously? I've been to Ri-Ra during the winter and it's usually packed. Pretty much the whole Trop is. There's nothing like going from Cuban food at Cuba Libre to Irish bartenders and some great bands at Ri-Ra.
I go to Atlantic City every weekend. Pretty much have since I was about 17 years old. I used to love the boardwalk... which is MUCH safer now than ever... they have cameras on the boardwalk now. The shopping is FANTASTIC on the walk... many outlet stores... from Kenneth Cole, Carters, Gap, Bath & Body Works, Zoo York, Liz Claiborne, Banana Republic, Coach etc. The stores are doing very well in the warmer months going into fall. Every weekend I go there, there are always people shopping, and the shopping is good.. I just went Friday. Very safe as the stores don't stay open too awfully late (I think 9pm for most), and the presence of police is seen every where. Surprisingly very clean and kept up. The Gap was quite disheveled when I went Friday, though. Yes, the Pier at Ceasar's is amazing to say the least. Wonderful shopping, Burberry, Versache, Kenneth Cole, etc. and a beautiful light/water show every 30 minutes. Just stay within the tourist areas and it's all right. AC has torn down a lot of the abandoned homes, and have "revitalized" a lot of the housing projects. Although, if you aren't from around there... I would stay away from the more "off the boardwalk" areas.... but the shopping district is fine, safe, and completely worth the while to go to. Try it!
I agree. If only they could revitalize/gentrify some more of the neighborhoods, A.C. could really be a gem. Imagine something along the lines of a Hoboken by the ocean and bay! I think it would be incredible, personally. The issue, as with most cities, is the rampant corruption in government there.
