Employed? What's that? (I have an interview on Monday, so pray!).
He's saying the Big 3 workers were being exploited and the foreign car workers here in the U.S. were making more per hour (he conveniently forgot to mention that with the pensions, legacy costs, and full coverages the average UAW worker is more than DOUBLE the hourly rate than those at Toyota, Hyundai, and Honda).
He is saying we need to pay for the quality of American cars. LOL!!!! I almost had a stroke from laughing so hard. "Unions are the only form of worker justice". Again...LOL LOL LOL LOL!!!!!!! My Uncle Mike (a 35 year UAW member) worked at the Ford plant in Edison and he even said everything the UAW is demanding is ludicrous.

Prayers for your interview!!!!
Yeah I caught this blurb "Dec. 12: After the autoworkers union refuses to take a pay cut, the U.S. Senate votes down a proposed $14 billion bailout for U.S. automakers. The impasse intensifies fears of a deeper economic slump."
Better a pay cut than no job ...

HG - fingers and everything crossed for you! Knock em dead.
The UAW has to make concessions. It's ridiculous to think they should be immune from any pain in this mess.

It's all about concessions right now. A lot of people are taking a pay cut. This isn't like anyone asked the UAW to sacrifice their children on some sort of pagan altar.

Thanks, tahiti! I am very under qualified for this job, but the manager loved some of my ideas on the phone interview. Would I take this job for a pay cut? Absolutely.

No one seems to mention that the execs need pay cuts also. They make millions and the stiffs making 50 or 60 grand are the culprits.

GM and Chrysler deserve to go down in flames if the unions won't accept a pay cut.
Toyota, Honda, BMW, Mercedes ... these automakers have figured out how to build cars in America and aren't asking for a handout. Gee wonder why? Maybe it's because they aren't controlled by unions (i.e. by graft, nepotism, corruption, and a sense of entitlement).
At least Ford isn't asking for a handout; one American car company we can be proud of.
