Unemployment Extension Problems
Just wondering if anyone else has similar problems. I am unemployed and am receiving approved job training. I have applied for the Additional Benefits while in Training(ABT) however they won't start until my regular benefits plus any extensions end. I just finished the first 13 week extension that was approved at the end of the summer and am trying to start up with the remain 7 weeks that were just passes.
When I try to claim by phone or internet it tells me I have to speak to a representative. When I try to do, of course, I am getting a message that due to high call volumes they will not take my call. I have been trying several times a day since Monday (today is Friday) and no luck. I just received a letter in the mail telling me that my claim was not accepted because "A system error occurred while processing your certification.".
This same situation happened to me when I started the first extension but it was resolved by speaking to an operator. Unfortunately now, it doesn't seem like the operators are taking calls. I mailed my claim in but am afraid that this is just going to get lost or delayed several months.
Has anyone been able to get through to unemployment or have any information on what's going on with them?

Go to unemployment office in your county in person, take a ticket, wait probably half of the day and the problem hopefully solved. Good Luck.

I agree Go park yourself in your local office and meet with a real person.

It's 20 weeks (extension) and I believe it could go another 6 weeks or more if the rate is at 6% or higher for 3 mos in a row. That's the way I understand it. I'm still on the first 13wk extension.

Yikes. I went in person to the Jersey City office. Talk about motivation to get a job doing anything. That place was the dregs.

i read that the unemployement office cannot assist you in person and that they direct you to either the phone of website. It was in an article from nj.com N.J. unemployed struggle to get claims filed - Breaking News From New Jersey - NJ.com
It sounds like they're mostly talking about filing for claims but I have a feeling that the same would happen for issues with extensions.

they said that all extensions concerning the new proposal passed Nov. 21 for seven more weeks will be mailed by DEC 19th. So you should receive an application for to apply again.

Why isn't your SS# on the "claim for benefits" form you received? You enter that when you apply for benefits.
