Has anyone ever dealt with the NJ unemployment office? We live in West Virginia and my husband got laid off and are claiming under NJ since it is substantially more (my hubby's company was out of NJ). All we need to do is call and get them to pull up the screen and tell them when we filed. We have been trying for 2 days, after being on hold forever a recording comes on and states too busy try again later . Other times we just get a busy signal or a recording right away that states to try again later. If we cannot get through then we can't get the money.

what makes you think they will add another 6 weeks after just adding 7???

Theres a reason its higher in NJ. Because our COL is higher than West Virginia.
Thanks for adding to my tax burden. Sorry to tell you this, but you don't live in NJ, so quit f'ing with my taxes by applying for unemployment here.
I hope you never get through.

Sorry, but his company is stationed in NJ so they are paying the unemployment taxes for their company and employees. No wonder my husband hated being there, I guess this is the typical NJ response. I hope you never find yourself with no job, no money and a family to support.
It is a shame, that you can't ask a question without getting beat up on. Nothing like getting a bomb dropped on you only for inconsiderate person try to make it explode.
EEEPNJ-thanks for the heads up.

You are 100% right Janipoo - but all NJ folks are not like that!
It depends on where the taxes are paid. Same applies for disability insurance. So your husband is doing NOTHING wrong.
FYI to those who LIVE In Jersey and WORK in NY... if you ever need to go out on short term disability you are SCREWED if you do not have a supplemental coverage. Max payment in NY is $170 a week. Better than PA's max payment of $0 per week though. NJ is $524.

Yeah, I know. I was just a little PO'd. I actually have quite a bit of family in New Jersey. It just gets me, we never never thought we would be in this situation and so are soo many more that never thought it would happen. Anyone who has a job should feel lucky. BTW, my husband is a truck driver and was laid off, he is having a hard time trying to get a job because the truck companies are not hiring or laying off like my husbands company did. If that doesn't tell you how the economy is......nothing is moving because no one is buying. It's only been 2 weeks and he has applications out there so we are hoping to find something soon.

If the company is there, they pay benefits to the state... which generally are applied to YOUR states benefits.
If a company is based in NJ, and has an office, where your husband works, in WV - the company is to pay UI to WV for those in that office.

Because what you're doing is wrong, and costing ME money. You are effectively stealing from me. Why wouldn't I be mad?

Well, good luck to you soon. You are very right - there are a LOT of people who are ending up in these situations due to NO FAULT of their own. I shudder to think what will happen AFTER the holidays this year.
I wish you the best.

FYI... this goes through NJ. NY DI payments are applied to NJ DI payments when you file.
So no.
