Paterson???
Hi folks,
I can't tell you how happy I am to have found this forum. My GF and I are moving to NJ to work at St Joseph's Regional Medical Center in Paterson. We have been told to not live IN Paterson, so we are contemplating towns around like Wayne, Nutley, Hackensack, Clifton, Little Falls, Bloomfield or maybe one of the Orange's. We are looking to rent either a small house, duplex, 2 bed room apt or 1 bedroom apt with a studio. We are looking to rent, we have a budget of 1600 dollars a month, and we don't have any kids so schools don't really matter to us. We just want a safe place to live with good access to the highway or at least a fast way to get to Paterson! Does anyone have any other ideas?
Also Does anyone have any suggestions on where we can find apartment listings. We've tried the obvious like craigslist and rent.com We were hoping to find an online apartment guide with local listings or we were also thinking of using rentalstoreusa.com (njexrentals.com)
thank you in advance for any help

Elizabeth is about 30 mins to Paterson.. u can find new apartments for rent for about 1300-1600 for a 3 bedroom/2 bathroom.. do a search in craigslist for Elizabeth, rentals.. you'll find a few.. but look in North Elizabeth section or elmora section those are the safe/nice sections.. you'll have easy access to NJ Turnpike, GSP, 1&9, 22, 27, etc.. for convenience i recommend Elizabeth..
Nutley is very nice..

You can find an apartment probably in Clifton for $1600 per month.
The paper for the area is Bergen Record, they have a website and you can look for apartment listing that are in the newspaper.

Look into Elmwood Park. Its pretty safe. Right next to Rt. 4 or Broadway which will take you into Paterson in 2-5 minutes. Maybe less. You could also look into Fair Lawn which is basically as safe as you can get. And Hackensack wouldnt be that bad a choice either. There is massive transportation outlets all in Hackensack, Teaneck and Englewood. If you choose Teaneck stay away from South Teaneck, Northeast Teaneck, The glenpoint district and parts of West and Central Teaneck. I know it doesnt leave you with much but the other parts are nice.

Fort Lee
Hi,
My mother has worked at St. Joseph's for over a decade. She lives in Fort Lee, and the commute is fairly easy and quick. It's in your price range, and it also offers easy access to New York City.
Good luck!

Mead, your posts are consistently pretty racist. I just joined today, as you can see from my profile. You post a lot, and sometimes with pretty good info, but your perspective is pretty slanted. I am sure I am opening myself up for a tirade from you but an area is simply not "ghettoized" because the people moving in or living there are not caucasian. I doubt that I could convince you of this fact through this forum or by any other means.
Clearly, as a black female, I am biased but I can certainly say that i have lived in several parts of the country, among all kinds of people. Bad attitudes, low expectations of living conditions, crime or anything else is not inherant with a person's color or ethnicity. I've seen bad in them all as well as a lot of good in them all.
I doubt that you are open to it but I hope you have experiences that can teach you the same.

There are other nicer areas in Paterson. Hillcrest is real nice and so are parts of Eastside. I think out of all the urban areas in NJ Paterson is actually on the nicer side. But then again thats comparing it to Newark, East Orange, Irvington, Elizabeth and others. But there are decent neighborhoods in Paterson.

Hm personally i found Elizabeth to be safer/better than Paterson... i never lived in Paterson though, just drove through it Literally felt chills over there though lol. Anyways, the creator of this topic could always look into West Paterson.
