Moving to Jersey City
After living in Philly for 2 years, I miss New York. However, I still have to commute to Philly twice a week. So I thought Jersey City, especially near the Grove PATH Station, would be a good fit. Any thoughts on that?
Also, typically, what is the arrangement with utilities? Is it realistic to hope that the rent will cover gas and heat?
Last question...parking...I realize street parking is out, but how much does the monthly parking run you in that area? $200?
Thanks.

The commute from JC to Philly is going to be awful. Maybe 2 hours. There is no regional rail from JC to Philly so you would have to take a bus and chances are transfer once or twice. Theres no way to say whether you will pay for gas or heat. In upscale places you probably wont. In other places you will. Parking will probably be a little higher than 200/month. If you still need to commute to Philly why dont you look into New Brunswick. Its not JC but its close to both Philly and NYC. Or why dont you just look for a job in the city?

Yeah commuting from JC to Philly can't be a good idea. It's really tough to do via transit, and the drive would be awful too. New Brunswick would be a lot easier. Even Newark would be a heck of a lot easier via transit than JC.

If you go to the parent page of a given thread, you'll see "New Thread" at the top left. You may not see this option when you're in a thread. Make sure you're looking at the full version of this forum and not the version some people see when they are not logged in (without the added graphics and other trimmings). Good luck sir!

Hi, I've lived in JC for 2.5 years now, the parking SUCKS everywhere, when i first moved here i got 6 parking tickets.
I now have a garage, that i spend about $200 a month on.
As far as rent covering gas and heat, you might be lucky and find something in the area that you want, but you gonna pay around $1500 around grove street if the rent includes heat/utilities...AND EXTRA FOR PARKING....if you can find a garage jump on it right away...parking tickets are $42 and then they double.
As far as the commute back to PA, public transportation will take damn near forever, you'd be better off driving; sanity, time and $$$ wise, except exit 8 when the turnpike comes together can be a bit scary.
My boyfriend just got transferred to Philly, we commute back and forth it takes about an hour 15 min to Norristown, it cost me nothing in gas.
Good Luck!
