How can I get rid of my old area rug (100% wool) in an eco-friendly way?

Hah, I wish...no, it's only 5 years old. I am getting rid of it because it's too hard (scratchy) for my little guy to crawl on - I bought a synthetic one - hate the fact that it's synthetic but it's unbelievably soft

How about donating it to a charity? Battered woman's shelter or habitat for Humanity? Salvation Army???
