I think it alot of things contribute such as previously suggested the video games... tv..... but also that their are more and more working parent homes. My mom didnt work so when we got home from school it was do your homework and then run outside as fast as we could... Now they are with a babysitter or afterschool program where they sit in the cafe until thier parents come home. Summer times I remember getting up really early by 9:00 in the morning and there were kids out in the neighborhood... by this time my duaghter is at summer camp (an active summer camp) so that kid thats left on the block during the summer time has no one to play with because all the other kids are out somewhere else... its really just a completely diffrent life.

I was in the after-school program for a few years, I liked it because u get to be around other kids and play games like UNO or someone would bring a movie, they take u outside in the school yard, the ladies who looked after us were nice to.

Ideally one parent would be home most of the time while the other one was out working. But that's impossible when parents are split or both are working the same hours. But after-school programs I think are great.
