I saw a show once where a couple who won one of these homes (it was really cool, on stilts over the water, can't remember where) chose to live in it....and ended up almost bankrupt because of the maintenance and upkeep of a house so large and high-tech. The utility bills alone were thousands of dollars a month!

P.S. this is true of all "prizes". Those people who win $60,000 showcases on the Price is Right owe a ton of taxes!

ISN'T this home supposed to be out in the desert somewhere? Or was that the last one? anyway, the one in the desert had a horrible-looking atmosphere in what I could see of it. They can keep it; I'd get lost in a house that size.

Sell it and buy something here? Are you kidding? The best thing this house has going for it is it's not in NJ!

Actually, I think there'd be as least as much if not more to complain about in California. Just better scenery and weather to do it in (except for the mudslides, forest fires, floods and earthquakes!)

Very valid point that few people rarely think of. On this home the taxes would be somewhere around the $700K price range. That is one heck of a chunk of change!

As for keep or sell, I would love to keep the home but the problem is that to move to California, it would be hard unless you have a job that is easily transferrable. With me being in real estate, it would not be an option since I have made a name for myself around here but I will tell you know, if I won that home I would try everyway possible to keep it. If it did come to the fact that I had to end up selling it, that would be a very sad day and I would be crying for a while. The cash will help but I remember seeing this house on TV and it was STUNNING!

I thought that on some of the shows like extreme home makeover that the show also helped out with taxes and utilities.
