I believe Cliffwood is part of Middlesex County. I'm not too familiar with Cliffwood, but I belive it does have a rough section.
Middletown, Freehold Township, Howell, Marlboro, Manalapan, Holmdel, Colts Neck, Ocean Township, Eatontown, are all go towns.
Exactly what are you looking for? Apartments? Condo for rent?

Exactly; the seriously rich towns will definitely be out of our league. Looking to rent a town house or a duplex with some yard/green walking areas in a safe area, obviously; Monmouth County sounds like it might work for us. I have been looking at Craig's list, but haven't found a thing in there! Looking at Rent.com tonite for the towns you have listed. THANKS!
Are there any community colleges or universities in the area? Hospitals? Malls near by? There must be since I was reading elsewhere that NJ is "mall capital."

Is there any way you can buy a house? You may end up with exactly what you want for the same price as renting and right now, you'd have a ton of options.
And you gave a class response to the woman about the echo boomer comment. Good for you for standing your ground and standing up for your son. Rep to you!

Yes, I am thinking about it. Just hate to be stuck with a mortgage in case something goes wrong. But definitely a good thought.

I would hook up with a real estate agent who is knowledgable in Monmouth County. In Monmouth, the landlord pays the rental fee, not the tenant. In the end, we ended up finding something on craigs list to rent out, but saw a lot of quality stuff with agents as well. Make sure you're looking at the central NJ craigs list when you look as well - you won't find a lot in the north jersey section, or in the new jersey section of the new york craigs list.
Best of luck in your search. If you the need the recommendation of a real estate agent, I can recommend mind. She was stellar - and really helped us a lot from our initial search when we thought we were going to buy, until we ultimately switched to renting. She is who we are going to go right back to when we are ready to buy again.
Weichert has a pretty good rental website you can look at as well that'll get you stuff listed on MLS. I think the url is weichertrents.com
Best of luck to you

That's great. I see so many young people who have everything done for them, and they are so spoiled and dependent -- so it's refreshing and very uplifting to hear that your son is such a stand-up guy. Good for you.
I think it will be hard to find a place without making some trips and checking out the areas near Hamilton. I have family in and around Pt. Pleasant, and the shore towns near there have changed so much over the years, but it's really a nice area. I would love to live around there myself. It can be expensive -- maybe your son's girlfriend's family knows someone in real estate who can help you find a place?
Good luck!

Don't like it here. We share our resources so who pays the rent for whom is not an issue with us. He is a stellar son, and can step into any leadership role, given the opportunity. He can more than make a decision for himself, so although I do like the term "echo boomer" I disagree with your opinion.

I am interested in your thoughts. My husband, two young sons and I are looking to move somewhere between Madison and Secacus. We want a yard, sidewalks, space (we are moving from the NYC) and a good community. Any thoughts?

Yes, the community college of Monmouth County is Brookdale Community College. We are also in driving distance of Rutgers, Monmouth College, Georgian Court, Kean College, The College of New Jersey, Princeton, William Paterson, Rowan, Stockton, and a couple more.
Monmouth county is a fairly heavily densely populated area. We are 1 hour from New York City, 1 hour from Philadelphia, and 1 hour from Atlantic City. All of Monmouth County is within 30 minutes of the Jersey shrore, although most of us take this for granted. There are 5 or 6 hospitals in the county including 1 very good trauma center.
There are many jobs of all types, and salaries are usually high compared to the rest of the country. However, so is the cost of living.
Monmouth County is also located in the central part of the state. You could always begin here with a month-to-month rental, research a bit more once you're here, and then make a final decision.
I would suggest starting on some of the rental search websites to get an idea of what is available and prices.
That's about all I can think of right now. Good luck!

are there any nice and safe places in nj?
Like going to a fine restaurant and asking if they have any food which tastes good and won't make you sick.
What can you say?

nj is small too, so if you don't like one area or town you can get out of it quick! Unlike Plattsburgh where 150 miles its all the same!
