Let me know how they come out this third time. I got a bread machine for Christmas and a booklet of recipes came with it, and making bagels is in it. I've already made two types of bread, French and Cinnamon Walnut Raisin. Both were outstanding!

I did really quite well that time. One of the "secret ingredients" is malted barley syrup. that I picked up from Whole Foods. I would say 1 batch takes about 1 hour. Maybe 20 minutes at night to mix, knead ( I don't do it by hand) and shape (by hand). Then another 40 to put the water on, boil, and bake in the morning. I am not sure how that would work in a bread machine since they need to be shaped and boiled?

Right, I would have to shape them and boil them after getting mixed in the machine. I'm not sure I want to do all that.
I'm glad they turned out....3rd time is the charm.

I've never thought about it either. I stick to homemade butter and whipped cream - so much easier than any type of bread.
Buy the bread, make the spread...... Hey, that's pretty good, if I don't say so myself.

What's this obsession with Bagels. My southern mom makes fun of people at her work who worship plain cold bagels. I like a onion or grape cinnimon bagel from time to time with butter or phila creamcheese but damn. People actually make them>?? I like ones that taste like pizza.
