I was unfortunate enough to live in Netcong for a year once a long time ago. Someone here is going to be offended but I found the town pretty white trashy. Some mighty strange folks hanging out at the 7-11 and Shoprite. I think you can do better OP.

I live VERY close to Netcong, so my responses are based on someone who grew up with graduates of Lenape Valley HS, worked at Netcong SR (my first “real” job in the 80’s) attended more than one funeral at Morgans’, “fished” off Musconetcong, attended unbelievable Assumption fireworks, frequents Bells’ Mansion, Rons’ Landmark and my current all time favorite Carmines.
I suppose if you’re looking for a VERY small town to call home after an exhausting week commuting to the city, Netcong may be a good fit. I HIGHLY suggest visiting Netcong so that you may obtain a feel for the neighborhoods and the surrounding retail/business options. Good luck.

What is Netcong like? I'm interested in finding out more regarding:
Walkable "downtown" or business district? Depending where you currently live, Netcong’s “downtown” is non-existent (IMO). Meaning, if you blink your eyes, you’ve driven through it and if you’re walking, it’ll take you perhaps 3 minutes to walk the entire “downtown”.
Mix of families and DINKs? Now that I know what DINK means, I’m not at all familiar with the mix. My interaction with Netcong residents has mostly been sports related and therefore, families.
Progressive/liberal or conservative? Unknown
Proximity to cultural events (i.e., concerts, theater, dance, museums, movies)? Concerts: Mainstream – Continental/IZOD in Meadowlands (appr. 45 minute ride). Theater: Aside from the growing stage, I suggest NY.
Movies: Cinema 10 in Succasunna is about 10 minutes away and the “new” AMC theatre in Rockaway is about 15 minutes down Route 80
Dance: Depends what type (formal, clubbing, line?)
Museums: As in the MET or local?
Community events (fun things to do)? Netcong has Netcong Days (I believe that’s what it’s called). Netcong also has a VFW post which hosts Spaghetti, etc. dinners. Netcong’s FD also hosts community events. If you become involved in St. Michaels and perhaps the Knights of Columbus, you will obtain a sense of true community/closeness.
Homes/apartments/condos ratio? Older homes and quite a few homes that folks have upgraded.
Most houses close together or have fairly good-sized lots? I truly do not believe there are many good sized lots.
Safety/crime? Safe.
Commuting to NYC? Train Station at the end of “downtown”, but I’m not sure if it’s a direct line into NYC or if you need to jump on the Dover line.

I bought a house here in Netcong in 2003 because it was the cheapest place I could afford & now I so want to move. It is white trashy. There are guys with mullets & women with 80s hair dos all over the place & it's like the same families have lived here for 50 years so it's very cliquey.
I like my house here but I hate the town.
The 7-11 is in Budd Lake tho. Maybe you meant Quick Chek?

You have to be half-baked to do a Netcong-NYC commute. Trains scheduled to take an hour and 40? (which means that's the best case scenario). Sounds like a death march to end all death marches.
