i've traveled to cayman, and it's been years since i've been there but i found it a little boring. the nightlife in local bars and clubs shuts down early (compared to NYC) on saturdays around 11:30/12 midnight. and other than scuba diving and taking one of the rum runner boat rides and a day trip to sting ray city, not much else to do. loved the beaches there, shopping in Georgetown and eating at restaurants but the whole island can be driven around in a day or a half day. overall it's a very conservative island.
what island in the caribbean can't be driven around in a day or half day? even puerto rico can be done in 1.5 days, tops.
i'm getting hung up on the romantic -vs- "stuff to do" aspect of the request. to me they are almost mutually exclusive, unless you're talking about a "club med" or "couples" type place, which isn't my thing.
BVI is going to have less "nightlife" than say Cayman or Aruba, but I'd say BVI is more "romantic" and INFINITELY more scenic. Cayman and Aruba are flat and sandy, where BVI is mountainous and green.
Hi Tahiti,
Did you stay at Richard Branson's Virgin Gorda? (i.e. Virgin Atlantic Airways
owner)
Sligo
Nope, nothing that fancy, LOL. I actually stayed at the "Mongoose Apartments" in Tortola, LMAO. It really was a nice place and we got a great deal (my friend and I split a room and it was $40/each per night).

Yes, Cayman and Aruba are flat. Cayman does have less action at night, where Aruba has casinos, if you're interested in gambling.
My personal choice to visit again is BVI. You can charter, or hire, and sail to the other islands, which is awesome.
With all that said, I still love Hawaii the best, been there 4 times and heading there again in Sept..

Ignore the romantic aspect since I think typically a nice beach and nice dining nearby can be romantic enough.
It looks like Caymans has the Grand Cayman island which is the nice beaches and such with lots of activities then you can hop over to the smaller 2 islands for more secluded type things. So I am thinking 3 nights on Grand Cayman and 1-2 nights on a smaller Cayman island. Or 2-2.
Just trying to determine best airfare and hotel combos...

I like the Cayman's - been there ~ 4-5 times. May I suggest, when looking for a place, you head further down 7 mile beach (away from the airport), past all the hotels and "center" of georgetown. I find the beach to be nicer, and it's quieter than the hustle and bustle of the "city". I've stayed here a few times, and it's a really, really nice place. If you don't stay there, anywhere in that general area will have phenominal beaches. Have fun planning!
Oh, while I've never been to Cayman Brac or Little Cayman, my IL's have, and they say there's NOTHING to do. They've been to the Caymans over a dozen times and did the hop over once. I guess I'm saying I'm not sure it's worth it. Just my 2 cents.

Go to Puerto Rico, you don't need a passport, tour Old San Juan, eat at some cheap restaurants and then take the Ferry down to the island of Vieques which has some of the most beautiful and unspoiled beaches in the Caribbean.
P.S The Cayman Islands - just spent 6 mths there and couldnt wait to get back to NJ.
BORING, BORING, BORING. Full of rednecks and old people who retire. YUCK.
