Default Phillipsburg area -- Please Help

Ok I'm thinking about selling my home in Roselle nj (union county) and want to know how far my money will go from this sale if put into a house out there. I own a typical cape cod and worth is probably $180-200ish. The trade off of moving to far west nj, I hope, is that I could get a nice little house with much bigger property than I have now (houses are on top of one another with tiny lots here) where privacy and more country type living exists. I like nature and value privacy and peace and quiet. Now I only mention the phillipsburg area because I'd like to be within 10 min or so of I-78 and walmart, supermarkets, movie theaters, etc. I'd consider going into pa. but being a life-long new jerseyan I'd prefer staying in nj. Is that general area still cheap enough or has the commuter crowd driven housing prices too high there? Thanks.

Phillipsburg itself is a bit dodgy but surrounding areas are nice. Bloomsbury, Stewartsville (Greenwich twp), Lopatcong, Pohatcong...even some areas of Alpha. I recently moved out this way and I really like it. It's not as "rural" as some of the areas a little further north like Harmony, Franklin, etc. but that's why we moved here.. we're closer to things to do. Rumor has it that we may be getting either a super walmart or a wegmans

Wiley's words are very accurate. I would never even consider living in Phillipsburg proper, but the surrounding areas that were mentioned are fine. To add one more, White Township is also very nice with low taxes and it is not far from Phillipsburg at all.

More than 10 mins from 78 though.... OP some of the areas just over the border in PA are nice as well.... along the rt. 78 corridor.

It's worth the extra couple minutes for the lower taxes.

You'll definitely do well for your money out in Warren County. I wouldn't go to Phillipsburg but many of the surrounding areas are fine. You'll want to stay in Warren versus Hunterdon if housing prices and taxes are a big concern. It's only an extra 10-15 minutes on 78.

For just going a little extra over the border, you'll save money on car insurance, taxes, and health insurance if you currently pay for it. Not to mention, theres actually a lot more to do over the bridge in areas like Lower Nazareth (I myself used to live here), Forks, Hanover, Lower Saucon, etc. Schools much better also than Phillipsburg in the mentioned towns. Stuff like Wegmans, Super Walmart, Starbucks, etc only available on the PA side of that area.
